Advanced Negotiations

Today we’re going to discuss this topic:

Slim odds: What do you do when there is a lot of them and very few of you.

I think we should split you up into small groups for discussion today. We could even turn this into a debate it you feel up to it.

Elizabeth half-shrugged. "It's why you tend to rely on the instincts of the most experienced member of the team," she said. "There's never this one give that says "Oy you, this is going to turn dangerous now." It's just one of those things.

And if it turns dangerous, then you better hope for either a forgiving party, or some crack-shot Marines. But this is why I don't like armed negotiations."

"You've obviously never been out with SG-1 before," Sam responded, under her breath. "Usually there is a give. It's Jack opening his mouth to say something."

She sighed. "Okay, so say the negotiation is unarmed, and something goes horribly wrong, and suddenly they're armed, and you're prisoners. Then what?"

Elizabeth snickered. "That's why I said usually. And I'm not sure Jack can be counted as an experienced, successful negotiator."

"Prisoners under armed guard? Seriously, your best bet is to go along with them. If you piss them off, they're even more likely to kill you."

"Experienced? Yes. Successful? Only with the Asgard."

"There's no way to negotiate yourselves out of that situation?"

She sighed.

"If you've got something they want, then it's a possibility. You have to make it sound like you're doing them the favor."
