Being a Proper Sea Dog, Friday, Period 3
Today's class met in a proper classroom, as Hook had not yet been introduced to the amazing world of the Danger Shop. His normal hook traded out for a rod which held a piece of chalk, he wrote his name on the blackboard as the students filtered in and sat at their desks. He also drew a little detailed picture of a large twin masted ship.
"Let's get this out of the way," Hook said, unscrewing the chalk-implement and attaching his standard steel hook in its place. "I am Captain James Hook. Terror of Neverland, nemesis of Peter Pan, and killer of tick-tick-ticking crocodiles. The Captain Hook. And before you label me a monster, I would like you to know that Peter Pan was far more of a vile bastard than I ever could dream of being."
He looked across at the classroom and said simply. "So, any questions right now, might as well get them over with."
After any questions, Hook gestured at the drawing on the board.
"You're here because you wanted to learn how to be a sea dog. I'll tell you right now, we're not going to be playing very nice. The best way to survive at sea is by being the largest, toughest shark in the water, as it were. We'll be going over all sorts of various skills you will need, and I can tell you right now it won't all be pretty. I do see we have members of what is erroneously called the fairer sex, and I want you both to know that I will not be treating you any differently for any of these activities. You are all going to be equal members of the crew. And any of you fine lads try to treat them as unable to do the classwork, and you'll find yourselves learning the disciplinary action part of the course early."
He did, however, cast a glance in the amphibious student's direction, and simply decided not to even say anything. After all, what could be said?
"But now that I've said that, it's time for the introductions. I want everyone to give their name, their class, the reason they're taking the course, any sea experience, and, oh why not, your happy thought. Whatever causes your soul to take wings of happiness, as it were."
After the introductions, Hook passed out copies of the syllabus.
"There's a brief idea of what we'll be covering. I assure you, I have the greatest of knowledge when it comes to all matters covered, and a formal education at Eaton as well as my years at sea. You are in the best of... hand with me."
He laughed, a little longer than normal people would laugh.
"Any questions?"

Still. Sea?
"Claudia Donovan," she said. "Junior. I, uh, went to Lake Superior a couple of times? Honestly, I'm pretty sure my social worker picked my schedule with a dartboard."

Don't sound so dubious there, Dolf.
"And I've been on the ferry to Norway a few times." Happy thought? Happy thought. "...We're all safe and sound? We almost won the World Cup this year?"

He paused, still hesitant about revealing too much about himself even though it had been proven time and time again that this island seemed to be shielded from Olympus and no one would really know.
"I'm taking this class because I think I'll probably need some sailing know how in the future -- " That was an understatement. " -- and while I know some stuff, I could always know more. I've been sailing before on a few different sized ships and I'm pretty good at it, though."
Son of Poseidon and all. He was understating things there too.
"And my happy thought is..." Oh god, he couldn't say Luke. "Being in Montauk with my mom, just hanging out and stuff. It was the only time we got to be together, just me and her, for awhile."

No, he wasn't gonna bring up anything about Rapture unless he had to.
The happy thought thing was more difficult to think of since his mind immediately went to Percy but he couldn't say that without getting teased for the rest of his life. "I guess my happy thought is traveling? Being in the open, not tied down to one place. Stuff like that."

He stood up proudly for this, and put his hands on his hips. "Ratman."

"I'm Zack Fair," he said, with a little wave. "Senior class. I really don't have much experience on the sea, mostly because the military faction that I'm a part of is almost strictly land-based, but I guess we have gotten to other countries by boat before, so that counts, maybe?"
He paused, and then a small, wry smile crossed his lips. "And my happy thought is my dream. Someday, I'm going to be a hero."
He wasn't letting go of that dream, no matter what he knew about his future.

It would certainly make living on a cruise ship in the future easier if he did.

At least the bruising on his face was doing better after a full day of ointments and rest. He so glared at Percy for looking like normal. His powers sucked.

Also, I love you all and I promise the evil is all the Captain and not me.
