So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 15, Period 3

This week being much more sane than the last, Aly was sitting on her desk, waiting for the everyone to arrive. "Morning all. Welcome to last class of the semester. I don't believe in final exams - if you live through it, you passed. And since I don't generally support overthrowing the school administration -" except in extreme cases, Dolores "- There's really not much of a scope for a practical examination."

"So I hope that you've all learned things. And I hope that you don't hesitate to put what you learned to use in defense of your people, your country, or anyone who needs it. I have the notes here from our first class. What I'd like you to do is look over your answer to the question 'when are revolutions appropriate, and what would it take for you to rebel against the current power structure.' Take a look and then discuss if your opinion has changed. Why or why not?"

Once the discussion was over, Aly nodded, glancing from student to student. "I hope you learned something from this class, and I hope if you ever need me, you'll let me know. We've been talking about revolution and war this term, so I'm leaving you with a quote I found a few years ago from a stateman of this country. It's something to think about. 'I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, [...] in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music...'"

There's not much of a lecture, but this thread seems required anyhow.

Percy flipped through his notes from the first class. Eventually, he decided that his answer may have changed some but not a lot. He'd probably just detail it more, if he was honest.

Notes, right. Nico's eyes glazed over a little as he considered if he'd changed or not. Okay fine, he was really considering how much everyone else had changed.

'When are revolutions appropriate, and what would it take for you to rebel against the current power structure?'

Has your answer changed from the beginning of the term? Why or why not?

Feel free to make the threads messy and talk to each other - just keep it civil.

Makita couldn't really discuss like this. With a wolfish huff of frustration, she set her head on her paws to watch her classmates.

Luke didn't think his answer had changed much, if at all. If anything, the class made him more convinced that something needed to change where he was from. So, nice going, Aly.

"I still think revolutions are necessary. There comes a point where it's obvious that the people in charge are never going to change and become sympathetic to the people they have control over," Luke said, pointedly not looking at his cousins. "So it's up to someone to show them that they're wrong."

The other half of the question was more difficult to answer. "I guess if I wanted to change something back home...well, I couldn't do it alone. I'd need help. So I'd have to convince people to be on my side."

That would be Nico, just be off to the side, smacking his head dully against the wall as he listened to Luke's response.

"If my opinion's changed at all, it's that I'm more convinced that power should be removed from the hands of those who abuse it," Cally answered, thinking of a certain madman in overly skin-tight trousers. "But I've certainly learned that actually accomplishing such things takes more work than just wishing it so."

"My opinions haven't changed, but my perspective has a bit. Since the last time I was here I was crowned Queen, so...I'm hoping I can effect the changes that need to be made without there having to be an open revolution."

Cloud considered an answer in silence for a moment. "I suppose my views have changed somehow, maybe there are times when a revolution is needed, and others when the solution might be less...violent." It was vague, he knew.

"I've learned to be more careful before deciding there is an injustice worth of a rebellion, because the harm can be greater than the reward."

"It's the same for me, but I don't know how my answer would change if there were humans to fight against. It's more complicated."

Give them a round of applause for being awesome TAs!

Ino certainly wouldn't mind a round of applause, even if she was busy looking contemplative.

Percy would probably make a face at getting a round of applause but he was there, doing his TA thing.

Clapping might actually freak Nico out a little, given how he'd acted during his stint as TA. No, he didn't think anyone would ever give him the job again, so he was keeping quiet today.

Rinoa wasn't sure how awesome she had been, but she was here nonetheless. The class had given her a lot to consider, about the revolution in Timber.

She'll be there before and after class.

"Duani?" Ino asked, approaching after class. "Do you have a moment?"

"Anytime, Ino," Aly said with a warm smile at the girl. "Another semester and still in one piece, huh?"

Cara took up a position a respectful distance from her. "Aly?"

"Cara," Aly replied with a little nod.

"I wish to apologise for missing class last week." It said a great many things about the Mord'Sith that Cara didn't consider 'I was kidnapped by goblins' to be an acceptable excuse.

Her eyebrow went up a little but she nodded again. "These things happen when Fandom hits," she replied. "I canceled class last week so no need for apologies. I'm glad you're okay."

If Cara wanted to hear it, there was a tiny hint of a question there.

Cara nodded in return and ignored the question because she was perfectly fine, thank you. "I would have missed class regardless, so my apology stands."

"But you wouldn't have missed class if there weren't Fandom issues," Aly pointed out, her lips quirking a bit in a smile. "So I must insist there's no need for it."

Cara wouldn't have missed class if she'd been better at fighting off the goblins in the first place, but since she wasn't going to get into that here. "If you insist."

Details. "And I do," Aly agreed, giving Care a warm smile. "I've enjoyed having you in class this semester."

Cara's body language relaxed as she replied "I enjoyed this class. The material was interesting." And potentially useful if Richard didn't hurry up and take the throne before someone else did.
