Their usual classroom was conspicuously empty, barring the note taped to the blackboard and the stack of handouts on the main desk. Every handout had a little note attached to the top, stating, Read, then research and analyze the military budget of the country of your choice, real or fictional.
The note read something else.
Due to a military emergency -- or, the really rather annoying straying of some Terrans onto her territory -- I am unable to join you for class today. Read through the handouts, then work on the assignment. If you leave before class is over, I will know.
How or why, she wasn't going to explain - for any of it. But she was totally planning to enforce it. Beware.
