It was so much better to be teaching a class while entirely normal. For one, there was no water pistol today. Surely everyone could be glad about that.

"Today we're going to be tackling another starfighter," Jaina began, activating the projection to show them the ship. "This is an E-wing. One thing you'll find with most starfighters where I'm from is that they pale in comparison in some way or another to the X-wing, so they get less use and fanfare. This also goes for the E-wing. You'll mainly see them in use in more elite squadrons, because they really are good ships. They're heavily armed with laser cannons and proton torpedoes, their shielding is good, and if they weren't so expensive they'd be set.

"Your scenario for today is this: you're going to be part of a squadron escorting a diplomatic transport. You'll also have some TIE fighters on your tail. Your job is to protect the transport. If it gets hit, you're in trouble, if it gets shot down, you lose this one. Oh, and if you get shot down, that's bad, too. And if there are no questions, let's get started."

Momoko had to chuckle at Jaina's mention of the X-Wings' popularity. Every flight class and semester of Flight club had included more than one session with an X-wing. Like it was a favourite pet, or something.

Ben grinned over at her. "What's funny?"

"X-wings," she smiled back. "Everyone likes them so much and talks about them all the time."

"It's what we grew up with," he said. "Dad flew an X-Wing during the Rebellion, and they're sturdy little ships. Tradition held that they were what the very elite squadron flew--the Rogues--and so while pilots might take about the differences in speed and durability of the X-Wings and the As or the E's, the X-Wing is still the sentimental favorite. I think I'm the only member of my family who hasn't flown some version of the X-Wing in combat other than Uncle Han."

"So it's a family favourite and a war hero's ship?" She nodded. "They are nice to fly; I like them a lot more than some of the ones we've flown. I just never knew why everyone seemed to like them more than other ships."

"It's a bit like how people cheer for a certain sports team," Ben explained. "We grew up knowing that X-Wings are clearly superior."

"Even when another one comes along that's obviously better?" she teased.

"Even then," Ben said, laughing. "We're stubborn like that."

Hang out and mingle.

Cally shifted from one foot to the other as she waited. Not impatiently; just with that urge to keep moving that comes with early-morning dogwalks. If she moved, she stayed awake; if she slowed down...

Protect the diplomatic ship as part of a squadron. How'd you end up doing?

She's outta here after class.

Bobby was demonstrably nervous as he found his way up to speak with Jaina. "Um? Miss Solo?"

"Just Jaina," she reminded him with a tiny smile. "What is it, Bobby?"

"I wanted to apologise for not being here last week," he said, offering her a piece of paper. "My mom wrote a note."

Having met his mother, it was totally not a shock that there was a note, which she accepted. "It's completely fine, it was just a review class," she assured him. "You didn't miss much."

"I'm sorry anyway," Bobby told her. "I didn't want to miss." He paused for a second then asked. "Um, since I missed review, is there another time I could review? I'm already behind. What with not flying a real spaceship ever."

"Sure," she nodded. "We just picked something we already covered that we wanted to work on some more. I'm going to be gone part of this week, but if you want to stop by before or after class next week, I can get you some extra sim time."

"I'll be there!" Bobby said quickly. "Early, okay? I promise." He could get up early to fly spaceships! "Thank you, Miss - Jaina!"
