Cultural Appreciation, Week X [Wednesday, Periods 4 & 5]

The portal today would spit the students out somewhere warm and sunny: the Magic Kingdom. "If the radio is to be believed, a day away from campus and the chance to run-off some energy is exactly what you all need," Ghanima announced. "I've got sunscreen and waterbottles for all of you, and if park security catches you causing trouble, I will be most displeased. Do not try to disassemble the animatronic creatures."

With this group, sometimes it needed to be said.

"The Walt Disney World Resort, sometimes shortened to Walt Disney World or Disney World, is the world's largest and most visited recreational resort, covering a 30,080-acre (47.00 sq mi; 121.7 km2) area just southwest of Orlando, Florida, USA and encompassing four theme parks, two water parks, 23 on-site themed resort hotels (excluding 8 that are on-site, but not owned by the Walt Disney Company), including a campground, two health spas and fitness centers, and other recreational venues and entertainment. It opened on October 1, 1971 with only the Magic Kingdom theme park and has since added Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park. This world famous resort was inspired by the dreams of Walt Disney and his creation of Disneyland in California. Its original theme park, Magic Kingdom, is designed similarly to Disneyland. Walt Disney created "Disney World" in order to have a vacation resort that was much different from Disneyland's one-day visit; this includes a much wider variety of sports, recreation, uniquely-themed resort hotels and entertainment."

"There are several anecdotes relating to reasons for some of the features of Walt Disney World, and Magic Kingdom specifically. According to one story, Walt Disney once saw a Frontierland cowboy walking through Tomorrowland at Disneyland. He disliked how the cowboy intruded on the futuristic setting of Tomorrowland and wanted to avoid situations like this in the new park. Therefore, Magic Kingdom was built over a series of tunnels called utilidors, a blend of utility and corridor. These tunnels allow employees to move through the park out of sight from guests, maintaining the illusion of the show. Because of Florida's high water table, the tunnels could not be put underground, so they were built at the existing grade. This means that the park is actually built on the second story, giving Magic Kingdom an elevation of 107 feet, or 33 m. The area around the utilidors was filled in with dirt removed from the Seven Seas Lagoon, which was being constructed at the same time. The utilidors were built in the initial construction and were not extended as the park expanded. The tunnels were only used in Magic Kingdom because of financial constraints, but they were meant to be employed in all subsequent Walt Disney World parks. Epcot's Future World and Pleasure Island each have a smaller network of utilidors."

"Now go run around and have some fun. Your homework is to watch a movie sometime this week done by Disney, to understand the impact one man's dream has had on the culture of a nation."

Mmm, it was so much warmer here. Karla approved. But out of consideration of her fair skin and lack of sunhat, she grabbed a bottle of sunscreen to apply. Hmmm. Now to find someone to help rub it in.

...All for purely sunburn prevention, really--okay, no not really. Sunburn prevention made up only a small part of Karla's motivations for this, really.

Karla wasn't the only pale and pasty one here, and getting burnt was... well, embarrassing. It was only sensible, really, to step closer to her with a, "Do yours if you'll do mine?" offer.

It was less likely she'd get too distracted if it was a girl smearing suncream on the parts of her back she couldn't reach than a guy, at least. Probably.

"Sure," Karla said, giving Effy a grin. "Just the parts that are showing, or did you want to slide your shirt up?"

There was the briefest pause while Karla enjoyed that mental image before she corrected, "The, err, back of your shirt, I mean. I know mine rides up sometimes and I get weird burns on my back."

She shut her mouth before she could start telling Effy about the time she and her boyfriend had been making out on the beach and she'd gotten a burn between her shoulderblades. Now was not the time for overshare.

Oh, today was the perfect time for overshare, wasn't it? Effy grinned back at her. "Whatever you think best," she said easily. "In one of those... kinds of moods. Just know, you'll get the blame if I end up pink."

"Then I'd think I'll play it safe and get you all over," Karla decided. "I'm pretty sure I'd be better off staying on your good side."

She squeezed some of the lotion into her hands and rubbed a little, warming it up before beginning to smooth it over Effy's shoulders ~~if that's cool~~. Long, careful, even strokes, massaging it into the other female's skin. Her soft, smooth, absolutely biteable skin.

There were times when Karla couldn't tell if she loved Fandom or hated it.

There was definitely something extra to be said for the warmth of someone's fingers on your skin this week. Effy'd like to think that normally she wouldn't have needed that slight steadying intake of breath at something like that.

Couldn't say she wasn't enjoying this week for that extra sensitivity. Quite a lot.

"Bad can be fun too." Always had liked that side a little more. "Always more for leather than lace." That gothy vibe might've given that away without her needing to share.

"I haven't really gotten far enough to make a decision either way," Karla confessed. As you do. She continued to rub the lotion into Effy's back, gliding her fingers along the skin, making it almost something of a massage. "But liking biting as much as I do..."

Yep. Just sharing with everyone today. Awesome.

Effy raised her eyebrows slightly, glancing over her shoulder at Karla. "Always the quiet ones--" she noted, obviously amused.

"I would know." Quiet one. Had a tendency to bite. Effy, unlike Karla, totally would share this sort of thing anyway, just because it often made other people uncomfortable.

"Though. Come to think of it. Find a lot of people not so quiet who agree." And there was her mind wandering again, not helped by the other girl's hands skimming her shoulders.

"I think biting is one of those universals," Karla decided from the depths of her vast experience. "Or if it isn't, it should be. I mean, where's the sense of anticipation if you know they're just going to kiss and not scrape their teeth or nip or--ahem. Yeah. You wanna raise the back of your shirt?"

As if it wasn't hot enough out here already. Karla really didn't need her brain providing visuals for that little bit of girl-time right there.

"Actually, yes. I really do." There was a bit of honesty she probably wouldn't have normally gone with, and she shook her head slightly as if to dislodge that little problem.

Whatever. She was going with that plan, and dropping her hands to her waist to tug her shirt up a little. Helpful, she was.

"Pretty good with your hands." Honesty right there. "... Not as good as other people, but-- Good." Well, the last person spreading suncream on her back was Alex, and she was a little biased there.

"I need more practice," Karla agreed, because apparently she was just going to keep talking here. "Haven't really gotten much but...always looking to improve."

Her hands dropped to Effy's lower back and continued rubbing. "Any pointers?"

Oh, plenty. Normally she might not be quite as forthcoming, but today things just seemed to be escaping without her permission. This was less distressing sharing to her than some things.

"Spread your fingers. Don't be afraid to use a little nail." She smirked not bothering to resist the urge to press back against Karla's hands. "Just as fun as teeth."

She hesitated just a moment before she continued. "... Why no practice? That's no fun."

Nails? Oh, nails she could do.

"Well, for one thing, I'm not supposed to have my Virgin Night until I'm twenty," Karla bitched, spreading her fingers a bit. "I've pretty much decided I'm not going to wait that long--" Darkness, she was starting to think she'd be lucky if she lasted past this week "--but it's a big change, going from thinking about sixteen as being too young for almost anything to being ready for everything."

She shrugged a bit. "Some other factors, too. I had a 'funny uncle.' He wasn't a circus clown." And on that note, Karla snapped her mouth shut so fast she nearly bit her tongue.

Effy slid a glance at the other girl's sudden clam up, and only briefly paused before, "I was fourteen. Could be more fucked up from that." Not much more, but... "Times you're glad you don't remember things." Too much honesty. Far too much honesty.

There was a moment where she twisted her lips, mild irritation at her inability to filter making her tense a little.

"Sixteen's fine."

"There's more to it than just age."

Suddenly, it felt like there were four other hands, rubbing the lotion into Effy's back. They were there only for a few seconds before they were gone again. "I'm a witch. If my Virgin Night doesn't go well, I can break my own inner web; sever my connection to my magic. I need an experienced male, one I can trust to can guide me through. Make it good. Keep me safe."

She huffed a breath of wry amusement. Yeah, that sure hadn't been her experience. Managed to keep herself from spouting tales of the two days she'd spend in hospital after that night, at least.

Concentrating on the... (multiple?) hands on her back actually helped in keeping her mouth shut, funnily enough. Or at least made her have to think about her words more carefully.

"Sounds nice." Actually, it did. "In a really fucking bizarre sort of way." Because it was that too. "They do classifieds for that?"

"Back home, my parents or my mother's Steward would chose for me. If any of them were still alive."

Awesome. Compulsive truth-teller and a downer. This conversation would suck if it didn't come with the added benefit of her hands all over Effy's back.

Thank the Darkness she didn't say that out loud.

"Now it would be up to my adopted uncle. If I wasn't going to make a choice here. Except my boyfriend's a virgin and that makes things difficult."

"Virgin, doesn't exactly scream capable and good, does it?" Usually didn't, from what she'd seen. That sort of hassle almost-- okay, no it didn't make her appreciate her getting it out the way early. But it was the sort of thing she might say to brush it off.

"That's... going to be a shitty conversation sometime." Unless she chose to risk it with the guy she was actually into.

Couple of moments and she turned without really bothering to warn Karla. Probably left her hands on her. When something so small could feel like this, it was worth not caring that she had a girl she didn't really know that well's hands all over her. "Your turn?"

"Already sorta has been," she remarked. "And that was when we were just talking in hypotheticals."

Karla was good with the few moments of quiet; at least she wasn't embarrassing herself by babbling more. But she was taken by surprise when Effy moved,her hands sliding along, leaving streaks of lotion onto her belly.

"Sounds good," she said, unbuttoning her shirt to reveal the tank top below. Hopefully Effy wouldn't mind how creepy-thin she was beneath her shirt.
