It hadn't escaped Ben's notice that there was something really weird going on today, which was why he'd tried to avoid speaking as much as possible.

Running a meeting would make that...not a viable solution.

He opened his mouth to say hello to the members of the club...and lyrics came out:

Ben's cheeks turned crimson. "Well, um," he stammered. "How are the rest of you?"

Why did she just have to be so... blonde, Elphaba thought.

"Well then, I hope it was worth it too," she said. "And now that you're yourself again, I think maybe you should be... building up your reserves."

It was probably a good thing Karla lacked Deadpool's ability to read narrative, or she'd be wondering what her hair color had to do with anything at all.

"I helped save lives," she said quietly, memories crowding close. "Less than a quarter of the village, but still..." she trailed off for a moment, then shook her head. "It was worth it."

She gave Elphaba a wry smile. "I think Fandom wanted to make sure I spent the past week doing little more than eating and sleeping. Which is why I spent it as a cat."

"Less than..." Elphaba's mood darkened quickly, finally grasping the seriousness of what Karla was referring to. "There was war?"

"No," Karla said, shaking her head. "It wasn't a war."

It had been a slaughter. But this wasn't the time for that. Except...well, maybe it was. This was a club for dealing with loss, wasn't it?

"A war suggests they had a chance to fight back," she said quietly.

"Then I apologize for my insensitivity," Elphaba said. "I am sorry, Karla. I hope those who were saved will remember your good deeds."

She kind of shrugged at Elphaba, waving her hand to let her know there were no hard feelings. "You didn't know. You couldn't. I don't think anyone's talking about it much. It was..."

She trailed off a moment.

"Too much," she said finally. "Too big. All of it."

"I can't even imagine," Elphaba said. "Nothing all that bad ever happens in Oz."

And she couldn't imagine it ever happening, really.

"I used to say the same thing about Kaeleer," Karla said quietly. "I was wrong. I hope you're not."

"As do I," Elphaba said. Fate would not be kind, there.
