Reserves: Danger Shop, After Classes

Today, the reserves group had been told to meet in the Danger Shop, and that it would be a good idea to bring along their weapon of choice while they were at it. The usual assortment of coffee and cookies was there, along with a fairly impressive amount of Halloween candy. It was on sale after the holiday? Score!

"Heya, guys," Zack practically chirped, sword on his shoulder and a grin on his face. "Today, we thought we'd do something a little different, and pit you up against an opponent who has a bit of an advantage against you all!"

Or, rather, eight advantages against you, as your Danger Shop opponent today happens to have ten tentacles. Being a giant squid will do that.

For some reason, the tentacles thing concerned Maladicta more than she could put into words. And made her more than just a bit glad that she never wore short skirts.

"So, we hope you will all give a thought to how teamwork can make this battle go far easier for you." A beat. "And no, using someone as a human shield does not count."

Kennedy could put into words exactly why the tentacles thing was wigging her out, but hopefully you'd forgive her for not really being up to doing that today; you'd just have to deal with the distasteful look on her face expressing it for her.

"Yeah, human shields are right out, guys," she said, patting the stock of her crossbow. Note how she was opting for a ranged attack on this thing? No hentai nightmares for her, thank you very much. "But we'll give you a break and let you have a few minutes to figure out a game plan. Against these odds, that's kinda fair, right?"

And he would have been rather disappointed in her if she did retreat. "Then I am certain you can hazard a guess as to which I would find worthy to fight for."

"There are those that believe there lies honour in the battle," Faramir nodded. "I believe it lies in defending, but there is little I would be defending here. I believe my motives are be much less noble of nature and more selfish than perhaps they should be."

"And now I wonder how much you imagine I would ask of you," he mused, reaching up to touch the back of her hand.

"That is fair," he agreed, meeting her eyes for a long moment.

Then he released a breath and stepped away. "Nay, I will not ask. If I am to find that thing, I shall need sword, bow and quiver."

He glanced at her from the corner of his eye. "You merely think you do?" he asked.

"I hope there is more than the one," he grinned at her. "Weapons?"

He chuckled, but moved over to where the weapons were stalled.

"I would prefer my own, but these will have to do," he said as he tried several of the swords. Finally satisfied with one, he grabbed its sheath and attacked it to his belt.

"You will save me before it can eat me?" he asked her.

"I knew I could count on you," he teased. He picked one of the bows, testing it for a moment before he grabbed the quiver and pulled it over his head.

"My lady," he gave her a deep bow before pulling an arrow from the quiver, putting it on his bow and moving towards the part of the room that was dominated by a tentacle wielding giant squid.

The things he did for a reward not agreed upon.

Perhaps it helped that he did not fully understand the nature of the Danger Shop?

The first shot went relatively evil, except that it landed in a tentacle rather than his through goal and then Faramir had to duck and avoid getting squished or thrown about while finding an opening between the many arms. He did find it and his arrow was true, hitting the creature in the eye.

It served well to anger it apparently and Faramir spent the next moment dodging (and not always succeeding) ten arms and he should probably be grateful that this was merely danger shop or he would not be getting up rather so quickly. That was until he found himself dangling upside down, the arrows having fallen from his quiver safe for the one he had already notched on the bow. One shot, but this was the one skill his brother had never passed him in and the creature dropped him instantly as the arrow blinded him.

The bow was tossed to the side and now, sword in hand, Faramir moved in closely to fight. Honestly, he would have preferred keeping his distance but there was nothing to it.

In the end he did win, but it was not entirely fair as even despite the safety precautions, his back was sore and he was out of breath when he returned to Maladicta. Admittedly, it made for some excellent training.

He would speak soon, just give him a moment to catch his breath.

"But you could have done better," he pulled the empty quickly over his head and dropped it on the table.

"I am aware," he removed the sword from his belt and placed it carefully beside the bow. "That does not lessen your skills."

"Then I hope I shall never give you cause to turn against me," he told her. "Yet, if there is an invasion of giant squids, I hope that you shall understand why I will act to back you up."

He laughed and glanced away, somewhat sheepish at how that had happened. "It would have gone much smoother if I had my rangers with me."
