Food Appreciation [Week 8, Period 4, Mon. 10/25]

There was a really simple reason the class met in the Danger Shop today: John wanted a damn taco. The class assembled on a busy California street. There were cars, people, and a glorious taco truck.

"Today we're eating out. Mexican food is as diverse as it is delicious. There's a thousand ways to make a taco and each one is as tasty as the last. Though honestly, I haven't had the time to try them all. Sure I could spend a class teaching you how to make a couple tasty types of tacos, but seriously, we're all here for the consumption." At least he was realistic about why kids showed up in his class. "This here is a taco truck. The beauty of America is that food isn't limited to a restaurant. Sure this truck looks like a mobile meth lab, and if you spot it in your neighborhood at 9pm on a Sunday night offering $40 tacos chances are you'll end up pretty popular, but the taco truck is about the food within, not the appeal of the stand."

John walked to the menu and gave the metal sign a tap. "So today you guys get to figure out the moddable menu of tacos and see if you can order something without getting laughed at for your pronunciation. Or, you know, find a friend to help you. Now, let's eat!"

Jane hadn't seen a lot of things like food trucks in her life. Her first thought was that it might be the greatest thing ever.

Her second thought was that she could never tell certain people if she didn't want the Tank to turn into a cheap version of a food truck, and considering how many rides she had to take in that thing, it really wasn't worth it.

Jane found an easy way to get food without getting laughed at for pronunciation: point to stuff. Which might mean she didn't get what she wanted, but dammit, she was eating it anyway.

Mmmmm. Tacos. Ariel really didn't need convincing that this was definitely her favorite class this semester, and she was having lots of fun seeing how many different ones she could try.

Of course she was butchering the pronunciation, but she didn't seem to care too much, so long as it got her delicious nom noms.

Mmmm, tacos. Being fluent in Spanish meant Bobby didn't have any trouble being understood, thankfully. It also meant an easy high school language credit, but that part wasn't relevant to this situation. What was relevant was the beef taco with extra sour cream that he ended up with. Nomnomnom.

Alex hadn't ever seen a food truck but that didn't matter. He adjusted quickly and was able to not even think about what kinds of weird shit could crawl into the food because it was on a truck.

Food was food.

Alex added everything to his tacos. The streak of free food continuing into a fourth straight day was ideal and he was not going to miss these opportunities since he ate like shit the rest of the time he was here.

The hotter, the better too. Spicy foods were a favorite.

Perhaps she should have spent some time studying Earth languages, Joolushko thought, then she might have had better luck ordering her taco. She didn't end up with what she'd meant to order, so the taco was slightly disappointing even if was fairly tasty.

Momoko was having trouble being understood. She wanted beef and lettuce and peppers and salsa and that green stuff all in a taco shell... basically what Mrs Reyes had made that one time.

She was totally sure what she got wasn't it, it looked nothing like what she'd expected.

She was totally asking Jaime what LENGUA meant. Right after she got something that she actually was willing to eat.
