Study Hall -- Tuesday, October 25th

Sarah sits at the front desk occasionally glaring at the notebook and stack of papers at the far edge of the desktop. Instead of the constant scribbling she's been doing for days, she's got a deck of cards and is shuffling them over and over again out of boredom. She's horribly tempted to go out and play Texas Hold 'em with Locker 327, but she doesn't trust the fucking thing enough. Or, you know, at all.

"Not as well as yours, I guess," Angela says, fiddling with a pen. "Oh, I ran into a guy who looks exactly like my ex in town yesterday. Journalism class was trippy. The Marty thing still sucks especially because I kissed him Sunday."

"Birthday," Rory says, grinning. "And Logan and I were actually...cute last night. Er. This morning. We never get to do that!" She creases her brow. "I'm sorry about the whole Marty thing...thought you were sort of friends now?"

Angela blinks. "I can't believe I forgot your real birthday was today. I suck as a friend. Um, happy 17th. Do you feel older?"

"As for me and Marty ... are friends, were friends, I don't know. He, um, kind of kissed me on Sunday. Then I kicked him out, 'cause I can't do that if I don't know where we are, and ... nothing has changed that would let us get back together, if he even wants that. If I do. It's so weird.

I'm so glad you and Logan get to be the functional ones for a while."

Rory arches a brow. "He kissed you? That's - that's nice and confusing."

She smiles at Angela's last comment. "Yeah. We actually just slept together. Not...slept together. Just...went to sleep. It was very nice. Functionalish."

"Yeah. I wanted to give him a hug 'cause he did something nice, and I hug my guy friends, right? Then it got all ... kissy. I have no idea what it means."

She smiles. "Sleeping together -- like, bed-sleeping -- is awesome."

Rory looks confused. "He initiated it? And...that's really weird. Maybe - if you seriously want to stay broken up, I mean - you guys shouldn't try to be friends too fast."

"I know. But he's friends with everybody I care about, practically, and .... he just makes me happy, y'know? He had a lot more patience with Curious Angela at the zoo than anyone else."

She drums her pen on her desk. "Which raises the question of why I want to stay broken up with him, doesn't it?"

Rory nods. "It kind of does. But I mean...it's up to you. I'm not going to tell you what to do. And hey, for what it's worth, Purple Prose Rory seemed to be okay with Curious Angela."

"Is that what was up with you? You were fun to talk to. Also, Zero and I decided to start a religion based on Google and Wikipedia." Angela smiles, remembering the trip. Weird, but fun.

Her smile becomes shaky as she thinks about the first thing Rory said.

"And ... I need to talk to him. Didn't see him, yesterday. But if we can talk out the stuff that started this? Maybe."

Rory nods. "I mean...I totally trust you guys to work it out on your own, but if you ever want a neutral party there..."

She lifts half her mouth in a smile and waves a hand slightly.

"Student relations, right?" Angela says, twisting her mouth in a wry smile. "We might do that. Thanks."

Thinkong of something else, the smile dies on her lips. "Oh, hey, I heard a little about what happened to Parker on the radio. Is she gonna be okay?"

Rory's smile fades. "Yeah. She'll be fine. 'Course, I wish it'd never happened, and...I really should've anticipated the whole thing better." She shakes her head. "Tara's playing with fire with this whol project."

"I haven't heard the whole story, but from what I have heard, and knowing them? Either Parker or Logan was going to end up in the hospital or the morgue before this project was over anyhow. I doubt there's anything you could have done."

She nods vigorously at the mention of Tara. "Yeah. I don't get it. And I still haven't seen my, um ... slave. Hate saying that. Which part did you get?"

Rory rolls her eyes. "Honestly? That is the absolute worst pairing that she could have made. Regardless of who's in what role, or anything. They're both too strong-willed...not to mention that they don't get along under normal circumstances."

She bites her lip momentarily, and continues. "And I'm a slave for Chiana, and she really doesn't want to do it." Rory shrugs. "I mean, I don't have a problem with it, because I know she wouldn't abuse it. But she has some real issues with this, 'cause I guess slavery still exists where she's from?"

"Yeah, Parker plus Logan equals bad. I think she probably had a point about giving up control for them to learn but ... it didn't work, whatever it was."

Her expression becomes more anxious. "I hadn't even thought about how the whole thing would feel to people from worlds with slavery. Shit. Chiana was on my debate team, and we talked about the assignment a little, but not that much."
