The Science of Deduction, Friday - 10/1

Class today was back in the proper classroom, much to Sherlock's annoyance. It was also joined by a gentleman who might have, in the vaguest possible manner, resembled their teacher.

Though, the fact that it was the start of this particular weekend and that Sherlock was ignoring his very presence were probably larger clues as to who he was.

"Today we'll be discussing how to deal with impediments to your investigations," Sherlock said sharply, fingers twitching as though for a weapon. Or violin. Considering it was him, they might be one in the same.

Mycroft - who had an umbrella slung casually over his shoulder - simply smiled at the class. "My brother is attempting to make a point to me," he said. "It's really quite childish. Good morning. My name is Mycroft Holmes. I serve the British government in a minor capacity, and I'll be assisting Sherlock in teaching you about some of the, ah, roadblocks."

Sherlock shot him a venomous look for that. "I heard there was a buffet at the hotel. Perhaps you should see how far this promise of 'all-you-can-eat' will be extended."

Ah, sibling rivalry.

"Do try and stay relevant to your own topic, Sherlock," Mycroft sighed, disappointed. "Now, I have to admit I am never one for..." He pulled a face. "...legwork. I cannot help you there, though I know my brother has more than enough experience in the art of... running around. However, there may be a point at which you'll encounter a great deal of bureaucracy."

"I would stay relevant if you would keep your nose out of my affairs," Sherlock snapped, crossing his arms over his chest in an entirely mature fashion. "The best manner to avoid bureaucracy is to bypass it entirely. It's up to the police or government to deal with paperwork, after all."

"My brother doesn't understand the value of political connections," Mycroft sniffed, "Though I hear he possesses some clout among the homeless network. Sometimes, you will simply have to charm your way, especially if you intend to get a look at any important documents..."

Sherlock rolled his eyes. "We can't all control the government, Mycroft. It would be dull, anyway."

"Oh, Sherlock." Stop sighing, Mycroft. "Perhaps one day you will learn to nurture the other connections that you have to your benefit."

They had such a healthy relationship, you know. "Shouldn't you be starting a war in Korea now?"

"Oh, no. Though I must shortly return hope to help in the preparations for the Korean elections... but that is of no importance to your class. Please, can we stop this immature display?" Mycroft gave his umbrella a cheery, impossibly upperclass swing.

Behind the two of them, John facepalmed. In fact, John had been facepalming for quite some time at this point. "Yes, please do."

Sherlock scowled at the both of them in a surprisingly polite manner that only came from upperclass breeding. "I want you all to find a partner. One will be trying to restrict your investigation and the other will be circumventing them. Is that understood? Good."

Now he was going to sulk like a teenage girl.

"Uh-hunh," Scully said, looking stern. "So, you realize you still haven't given me your name. And I don't see a badge. Right?"
heromaniac: (determined)

"Oooh. You're good, Scully!" Momoko whispered, then resumed her role.

"I don't see a badge from you either. And I don't recognize you from any of my previous crime scenes." She blew at her bangs and folded her arms, adding, in a stronger tone, "Look. I actually have work to do, here, now, so please step aside before I have one of the officers take you away." She pulled out her cell phone and flipped it open to scroll through her contacts list.

Scully gave her a tiny smirk, and muttered, "Thanks" before getting back into character.

"Please feel free," she said in tranquil tones. "I'm not moving without authorization from higher up." She flipped out her own phone. "Let's see who gets a police captain first, hmm?"
heromaniac: (celphone)

Momoko gave her a look of disdain as she pushed a button and held the phone up to her ear. "Oh. Did you really think I was looking to call the captain? Do I look like an officer?" She ran a hand down to emphasize the fact that she was not in uniform.

The ringing stopped and a woman's voice came across the line. Apparently it was going to be partly cloudy today, with the high expected to hit 70 degrees.

"You know, this totally doesn't have to happen. Just let me pass and I'll even tell the Commissioner that you were helpful."

"If you leave now, I won't have you arrested," said Scully in the same cordial tones. Her phone was saying that she'd reached the Fbi hotline; if she wanted to reach a special agent, please press 9. She was inches away from the impulse to call either Mulder or-- well, herself. "I understand that you're interested in the crime, but we can't allow civilians to assess the scene until after CSU has had time to do a sweep."
heromaniac: (Lame!)

"Which won't happen if I can't get inside." Still on the phone, Momoko reached into her pocket and retrieved a pair of gloves sealed in an unused evidence bag - someone had taken a few too many Gibbs' classes - dangling them in front of Scully's face.

"Article 10, Subsection C of the City Officer's handbook, to wit: no officer will be allowed admittance to a crime scene without proper identification. Failure to wear identifying police badges and ID will result in suspension, or reprimand, depending on the severity of the instance in which the incident occurs," Scully said, meeting Momoko's eyes dead-on, but still trying to hide a smile. "I'm sure someone can bring you your ID, ma'am. I'm willing to wait."
heromaniac: (reading)

"Actually, according to Section 9.4.13 of the disciplinary regulations," for the Miracle Ace movie where Gamma Grace was demoted for acting against orders "the 'penalties that may be imposed on Department members are reprimand, discharge, reduction in grade, fine and/or suspension.'" Momoko will see your stare and raise an eyebrow. And, apparently, call your bluff. "And Article 10 of the City Officer's handbook is all about proper terminology while on duty, not uniforms."

"Either way, you're not in uniform, you don't have identification or a badge, you haven't given me a name, no one has called to identify you, and I am forbidden to allow you access beyond this point." Scully's smile curled upward. "And if you are proven not to be a member of the police department, I'm required to arrest you for impersonating an officer of the law."

She looked at the rubber gloves and then back to Momoko. "As well as tampering with a crime scene, trespass, and interfering with an investigation." She raised her eyebrows. "Are you trying to cost me my job? That's not fair."
heromaniac: (Momoko is not pleased)

Re: Partner Off

[personal profile] heromaniac 2010-10-02 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Momoko lifted her phone from her ear and glared at it, snorting in frustration as if it simply wouldn't connect or, "Stupid voicemail. I can't get any work done these days, no one picks up their phone."

She snapped it shut and tapped her toes, transferring her glare to Scully. "Look. You're interfering with me, not the other way around. I was supposed to be here ages ago and I'm the one who's job is in jeopardy. Not yours." She pocketed the gloves and evidence bag again, turning away. "I will return shortly." She got up and moved to a different desk, leaving her cell phone behind. It began to ring. (Probably because Momoko was calling it from her other phone.)

Scully swallowed the grin that wanted to break out, and answered it automatically, "Agent Scully."

Damn!... anyway.
heromaniac: (haaappppyyy sunflowers)

Re: Partner Off

[personal profile] heromaniac 2010-10-02 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Agent? There was much giggling on the other end. Momoko couldn't help it. This was just too much fun!

"You're totally not going to fall for this, are you, Scully?" She finally managed to get out.

Re: Partner Off

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Sorry," Scully said, stifling giggles of her own. Who knew that having questionable authority could be so fun? "I'm really, really not. You might have gotten past a lot of people, though."
heromaniac: (smile giggle)

Re: Partner Off

[personal profile] heromaniac 2010-10-02 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Momoko walked back over, still laughing. "I don't usually have to say anything to get past police, since I'm usually in costume and everyone knows I'm me. So that was actually fun! You totally sounded like an official, though."

Re: Partner Off

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you," said Scully, amused if a trifle subdued. A stupid slip, there. She had to be more careful. "You did sound official, for what's it's worth. Someone with... little experience, would have been taken in, I think." She paused, "Your blossom costume, you mean?"
heromaniac: (V for victory)

Re: Partner Off

[personal profile] heromaniac 2010-10-02 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep! Being a famous hero has it's perks! I totally get in anywhere."

Re: Partner Off

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Scully wistfully thought of her FBI badge again. "Very useful for getting things done," she acknowledged. "Although it would have the disadvantage of making discretion harder to come by, I imagine."
heromaniac: (thinking)

Re: Partner Off

[personal profile] heromaniac 2010-10-02 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Momoko tapped her cheek thoughtfully. "I don't know? I mean, I haven't had to get in someplace with no fuss before. I can't think why I would, back home."

Re: Partner Off

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I think I envy you your home, then," Scully said mildly, but slightly envious. "If you don't have reporters, or members of the public looking to make trouble if you're spotted at a crime scene."
heromaniac: (team)

Re: Partner Off

[personal profile] heromaniac 2010-10-02 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"They're there, but they don't make trouble. People usually know if we're called, it's pretty important. They're usually pretty good at letting us do our jobs." She hesitated a moment, then smiled and added, "Although we do get asked for autographs a lot."

Re: Partner Off

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Scully smiled, and tried to imagine that; but it was too far outside her experience. Like being teenage rock stars, with a license to fight bad guys and monsters, from what Momoko had described before. She shook her head. "Some things will always come a little easier for you, I guess." And some things might be impossible-- but never required, if crime was low, and the public supported them.
heromaniac: (eh-heh nudge)

Re: Partner Off

[personal profile] heromaniac 2010-10-02 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Some things. But on the other hand? I totally can't do some stuff as Blossom because it would ruin her public image. Especially since I actually work for the Mayor's Office."

Re: Partner Off

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Like?" Scully asked, curious.
heromaniac: (smile innocent)

Re: Partner Off

[personal profile] heromaniac 2010-10-02 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Momoko shrugged. "Normal stuff. Like, get mad when my order is wrong at a restaurant, or have an overdue library book."

Re: Partner Off

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Scully winced, her internal comparison not so far off, it seemed. Celebrities, especially kids, never had it completely easy. "I'm sorry for that. At least you have your life as Momoko to go back to?" She thought it was the way it worked, anyway.
