Macro-Tactics, Monday

"Now, this is a class on macro-tactics. Top down. That's the theory." Kerrigan was grinning like a shark today. The walls of their usual Danger Shop hideout weren't metal this time, either. They were solid brick, old brick, cracked brick. "But sometimes, you need to know a little bit about what goes on on the floor to make it work."

Her eyes slid across the students, looking for Blackagar if he was there. "Some of you wanted to know how to combat the tactics we talked about last week," she said. "I'm graciously giving you a chance to figure it out for yourself. Let's do this the classic way."

She kicked open a door in the corner of the room. "Medieval castle," she said, smoothly. "You're surrounded right now, and your enemy's going to be trying all kinds of tactics to get in here. You can command whatever moddable NPC soldiers, archers and knights you run into. I have five kinds of battle stations. Pick yours, swap it around if you're through with it. You do learn by doing..."

Leia went up on the walls to command the soldiers, directing them to push back the ladders, or better yet destroy them, and to pour or throw whatever they had on hand down on the invaders below, from boiling water to hot oil to rocks.

Emma arrived on the wall with two knights and six archers, figuring that if she was up-high, she'd at least have a good view of what was going on.

"Mind if we join in?" she asked, waving her archers off to take up positions along near the ladders."

"Suppressing fire," Leia said, inspecting the archers. "You're more than welcome here."

On the gates, Cloud started to direct the soldiers there to both reinforce them, and to prepare to fend the enemies off. And to think in a way to stop them before they broke in.

As Cloud was reinforcing the gate, Faramir pulled an officer aside and gave him orders to create barricades to block off the roads so they could make a stand if the gates did fail.

Then he grabbed whichever archers he could find and moved up to the battlements to attempt to take out the ram.

Karla met Faramir up on the battlements. "What if we doused the ram with oil?" she asked him. "It would make it hard to hold...and be flammable should they start to make headway on the barricades."

Here, perhaps, Cally could do some good, if only because she'd paid close attention to the sections on mining. It seemed like something that could just as easily be used in the future, if with more attention to high-tech sensor equipment.

She approached the workers by way of the well, with a bucket of water in her hands. "They will try to come from below; we should be there to meet them before they can collapse the earth beneath us." She held the bucket up. "If we place these near the walls, you can watch for the vibrations from below to disturb the water, and know where to dig."

Alexander did feel that, perhaps, armed with a sword for defense, he should have taken a more active approach with battle, but, on the other hand, reasonably speaking, if he were in a situation like this (and he very likely could be one day), he would not be on the front lines, even if he wanted to. He would be king, or if not king, then on the way to becoming one, and, as such, he would have tasks more like this one, safer from harm and in charge of caring for his people.

That, and, well, interestingly, it was similar to what he did as a slave, as well.

Besides, knowing too well about old castles and their secrets, he wanted to check the storage room for any secret entrances or tunnels that might be used as a way for the enemy to sneak in if they had the right intelligence about such things.

In a few weeks, Karla was going to think back to this exercise and bless Kerrigan as psychic. Right now, however, she was far too busy looking to see what they had and how it could best be put to use now.

People were going to get hurt, so it was good to set up a small infirmary area near by the fighting--though not too near, so as to not impede the soldiers. She was also going to station a someone here to keep watch. No reason for anyone to get funny ideas about hoarding or something foolish now.

K-Mart could fight, and she could lead to a degree, and she'd handwavily done the second as she gave the occasional order while moving through to see how everybody was doing.

She beelined over when she saw Karla coordinating the infirmary area.

"What can I do?" Because she was fully capable of taking orders.

Karla grinned at K-Mart, a little relieved to see someone else who could help. "Could you help me get a good fire going? I want one that will last for the rest of the class, so we can keep a cauldron boiling."

Sterilization, baby. It was important

"A fire it is," K-Mart said with a nod. "Wow, sterilization. Can't remember the last time I worried about that."

Because they hadn't exactly had the resources to worry about it back home.
