Food Appreciation [Week 5, Period 4, Mon. 9/27]

"Okay, I'm gonna talk fast so your fries don't get cold," John told the class the moment he counted close to the usual number. "Today I've gotten a bunch of Happy Meals - hamburger, cheeseburger, and chicken nuggets, all with plenty of dipping sauces and fries. Have at. While you munch, I'm gonna show you all this great documentary about the fast food industry and how terrible their food is." He was kind of an ass for that one. "Then I want you to ask each other, do you still wanna eat it? Do you care what people say about fats and trans fats and caloric intake?"

He started passing out the moddable Happy Meals at random. "And no, there's no McDonald's in town. These puppies are fresh from a connection I have off-island. Have at and try not to pass out or glaze over during the movie. Talking is encouraged."

Jane listened, sort of wanting to know what the toy was before anything. She didn't want a toy, she just wanted to know what it was. Totally logical.

George wasn't paying attention to the movie. In the Lower City, people had to worry about starving more than worrying about what kind of food they were eating.

Instead he was experimenting with mixing different types of sauces to see what was best with the nuggets.

Luke supposed that the movie was supposed to gross him out or something but, dammit, happy meals were so good. He also knew how badly Nico wanted McDonalds, so if he swiped another one as he was leaving class, well, he was just being nice. So it didn't count as stealing.

Helen couldn't see how eating one meal once in a while translated into what this man did. Besides, the chicken things and the barbecue sauce were quite delicious! And she'd never had better fries!

Jane actually stood by this movie. People needed to be smacked somehow for practices that hurt people, and that went for huge corporations. So she was totally interested in this.

So interested she didn't really realize she was still eating till she was done. Well, this was awkward.

Alex hadn't had McDonalds in awhile so he was happy to eat up while he watched the movie. No need to ask twice.

Funny. Despite Ariel's clear, growing disgust as the documentary went on, she was still munching on french fries and nuggets. They were tasting, and the snacking was almost compulsive, as if you just didn't even realize you were doing it.

Besides, she bet people would probably think the usual diet in Atlantica was pretty gross, too, so it was just different strokes for different folks, or something.

[identity profile] theotherpeter.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter found the movie amusing, as he snacked lightly on the given food. Good things were best in moderation, after all. Going all out like this guy, of course it'd end grossly.

Alex wasn't giving her full attention to the movie as she ate. Though she did catch a couple of things here and there, she wasn't at all put off by it. It wasn't like she ate happy meals every day, so fast food was still okay in her book.

After the first few minutes of the film, Momoko got bored and stopped paying attention. Instead, she munched happily on her fries and doodled on her happy meal box, trying to help the purple triangle monster get through the maze and to the police cheeseburger-head guy on the other end.

The whole premise of this flim was flawed, as far as Joolushko could see, because surely normal humans didn't eat this sort of thing as constantly as the filmmaker did. Wasn't it obvious that this sort of thing wasn't meant to be healthy?
In any case, the french fries were quite tasty. Less tasty as the film went on, but still tasty.

Re: Food [F5]

[identity profile] likethestore.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
K-Mart didn't give an ever-loving crap about the movie, honestly. She was too busy enjoying the chicken nuggets and french fries. Because seriously, after all the years she'd spent not having them, she had a whole lot of time to make up for.

That was her logic, anyway.

Kate will be so sad to find out she missed out on Happy Meals thanks to taking too long to negotiate her way out of being grounded.
