The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon 9/24/10

To be perfectly honest, Blackagar wasn't sure how he ended up being in the gym this afternoon. Let alone being one of the first people there.

But that was just how life worked sometimes.

Plus, it gave him a chance to look over the new clubs first! Score for him.

And then a sly look crossed over his features regardless.

//Unless you were looking for a quick way to pay off that drum kit of yers...//

This was George. This was George being very, very unamused.

"What did you do?" she hissed.

//It's not so much what I did as it is what I was conned into doing,// Jono admitted, perhaps a touch guiltily.

But only a touch.

//Nothing big, really. Just a few people with a few instruments, playing a few songs in th'dark on th'beach. If we're lucky, the waves'll drown out any of the sound anyhow, or people'll be more interested in th'bonfire...//

The down side of having a roommate who was on fire was that you couldn't threaten to toss him into bonfires.

Occupational hazard?

"We ... have to play for people?"

//With any luck, it'll rain that day,// Jono offered. Because he was tremendously helpful like that. You should be thanking him, George. //And th'drummer gets to hide in th'back, behind th'vocalists, guitarist, and keyboardist. Really, nobody will so much as notice you.//

Yep. So very helpful, indeed.

"They won't notice me fucking up?" she snapped. "Not even playing the same song as everyone else? You can have your beach party without me."

Jono, of course, took the snapping with a grain of salt.

//Apathy, George.// Straighten out his jacket, shrug his shoulders. Completely unbothered. //You wouldn't need to do anything fancy. I'm not about to throw you at a bloody solo. And you've got over a month to learn th'parts. For that, I'd be willing to shave off... Half th'cost of th'drums. For what, so far as I can understand it, is a show I won't be gettin' paid for, either.//

It didn't help that she was broke. Really broke. The kind of broke that meant she'd be paying off the drums for months, discount or no.

"... Why?" she asked. "I mean, why would you do that?"

Why did he care if they had a sorry-excuse-for-a-drummer at their beach party? She couldn't be the only person on the island who they could prop up behind a drum set.

//Wot, offer you half-off?// Jono eyed her for a moment, and then shook his head. //Gets us both out of th'dorm room, doesn't it?//

"I guess," she said.

Maybe he was bored.

"Just the one performance," she added. Because that was likely to hold.

//Just th'one,// Jono agreed, drawing an X over his chest with one finger. //Cross me heart.//

He didn't have a heart. He didn't even have to cross his fingers, here.
