Criminal Justice, Class 13

[OOC: Rory will post grades through the first test in the comments at her leisure. The inspiration for the evaluations come from a bunny-related incident at the zoo. CJ couldn't keep her monologue internal. Not her fault. :) Mun's head is freaking killing him as he's typing this up. Don't expect anything too elaborate today. Class Info Link.]

*Tick is sitting at his desk. He has a strange look on his face. If you glance at the desktop, you would see a completed Rubik's Cube and might recognize a sense of victory in Tick's gaze. If you looked more closely, you might be able to tell that he has been pondering something just a little more than is probably good for him. Possibly something that makes him question his Destiny at this school. It doesn't look like he's mopey about it, though, just pondery. Yes, "pondery."*

Hello, students! Today Rory will be putting up a grade sheet. These are the grades of students that made it to the test, and them alone.

And because it's only fair that if you get a status report, I should get one as well, I went ahead and whipped up a teacher evaluation. Please get these in by Friday, chums. They're anonymous to Tick, but not his mun, so be honest!

Now to today's topic.

Today's class will be the Low Dive of Discussion. You don't have to go too far up, but you still end up in the deep end of the pool! Why did you join this class? Why do you dig Justice?

As for this week's extra credit - *Tick pointed at the cube on his desk* - come up with a metaphor for how Justice is a Rubik's Cube.

*After Rory posts the current grades, Tick makes an announcement.* If anyone would like to talk about their grades thus far, I'd be happy to stay after class and chat.

[OOC: Due to the continuing headache, I'll probably be around to respond to class replies throughout the day, but the replies might be along the lines of "Tick says 'Good job' while his mun takes more Advil."]

"I dig Justice because without it our society would fall into chaos. There is a need for someone to balance out crime and to bring order where there would be none without the arm of the law watching out for people. As a C.R.A.C.K. member and faithful sidekick to the majestic, burly Major K!, it seemed only right for me to sign up for this class." Cameron explains, although his homework was probably more eloquent about it all.

He considers the extra credit question. "Justice is a Rubik's Cube, for every crime that is solved new crimes show up to bring new chaos. Only those with patience and a love for justice will succeed in finally bringing order to the colourful chaos."

Aeryn has to glare at the mention of the damn Rubik's cube.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Cameron gives Aeryn a nervous smile as he sees the glare. He's so not going to mention the cube to her as being chased by Zero with a mallet was bad enough already.

"I joined this class because I thought it would actually help me in my line of work," Aeryn says. "Dig justice what? A hole? That makes no sense."

The extra credit is a definite sore spot. "Justice is not a Rubik's cube, all right? It's frelling evil. It's anti-justice."

Aeryn nods. "I'm interested in justice because... it's the right thing to do."

She glares at the cube. "It could be used as a torture device, you realize."

Cameron beams at the Tick's approval. "Thank you, sir. It is an interesting thing to compare Justice with."

"Depends on how badly I hate whoever's being tortured," Aeryn grumbles.

Janet sits at her desk and looks at the Rubik's Cube. She's been itching to get her hands on it. She hasn't played with one in years, but she could probably still solve it as quickly as she used to. She wonders if maybe she could borrow it later. Or get extra credit for solving the puzzle. Sure, she could go and order one on her own, but it would be much less fun that way.

"I joined this class because a bunch of my friends tell me wacky stories about this I was inspired to learn more about Justice. Especially after trying out to be your sidekick. But Rory definitely deserves the job more than I do. And I dig Justice because it's one of those things that should mean something to everyone."

Janet stares at the Rubik's Cube some more. A metaphor for Justice? She'll try. "A Rubik's Cube is a shiny, multicolored puzzle that takes a long time to solve, but the more you practice at solving it, the easier it is to get right. Just like the more you work at understanding Justice, the easier it is to understand and to do the right thing. Also, Justice could possibly be shiny and multicolored. You never know."

"It's not a torture device," says Janet. "It gets easier the more times you solve it. First time's always the hardest."

"Right now it means I need more coffee to think about it," says Janet, taking a drink from her cup. "Okay, that's better." And inspiration strikes as the caffeine hits her stomach. "Justice means as much to me as coffee. I can't get out of bed and face the day without it."

Okay, it wasn't as great a metaphor as The Tick could come up with, but she was a novice at the whole business of metaphors for Justice.

"Thanks," she says, brightening on the extra credit. "But what color is Justice to you?"

"I kind of thought so," she said, trying not to giggle too much.

Rory approaches the front of the room, armed with tape, and sticks the following to the wall by the door:

Grades Through the First Test:

Scale:
KEEN (Participates, shows up, takes the subject seriously no matter how bizarre the topic may be)
NIFTY (Participates, usually shows up, should probably look for what the bizarre topics are actually getting at)
EGADS (Doesn't show up, in danger of failing, should definitely look for what the bizarre topics are actually getting at)
CRIMINAL (Lucky they haven't been arrested for failure to care about Justice)

[livejournal.com profile] fates_jaye: NIFTY
[livejournal.com profile] can_be_more: KEEN
[livejournal.com profile] actingltcrumpet: KEEN
[livejournal.com profile] sparkplugfelix: NIFTY
[livejournal.com profile] aka_vala: KEEN +
[livejournal.com profile] time_agent: EGADS
[livejournal.com profile] phases_of_kitty: NIFTY +

Added below in an impossibly neat hand:

This list only includes the people who made it through the test, which counted as 1/3rd of the grade. This does not include those who mysteriously left, dropped the class, or only recently joined. They were only graded for the classes they were enrolled in, so nobody was penalized for anything they weren't around for, except on the test.

"No, sir. They were very kind to me. But maybe it's because they know it's my birthday."

"Thank you, professor!" Rory says, grinning.

If Tick were to do such a thing, Rory would certainly not blush seven different shades of red and hide under a desk.

Really.

(ooc: man, I wish Bridge could be in this class. Curse that inability to be in two places at once!)
