Today, the class was left a note to meet in the Danger shop instead of the normal classroom. Because someone had been given the chance to recreate a crime scene for the students without all those pesky little details about child endangerment and contaminating evidence.

The room was empty save for a woman in an alarming shade of pink from head to toe. She lay prone, face down and unmoving on the floor.

"One of my more recent cases," Sherlock said in lieu of greeting the class. "Suicide. In a manner of speaking. Like this woman, three others before her had gone to a place they had no known reason to be and taken the exact same poison. No signs of force, they've clearly taken the pill, chewed and swallowed it all on their own. Serial suicides according to the police."

He stepped around the body with the care of someone accustomed to crime scenes. "Unlike the previous three, this one has left a note scratched into the floor as she died. R-A-C-H-E was carved into the wood with her fingernails." One might take note at the chipped, worn down appearance of what had once been perfectly manicured nails on the hand next to the letters.

"Your task is to pair off and ascertain as much about the scene as you can manage," Sherlock informed them, pulling out his phone to check it for messages. "And for anyone who may have discovered my colleague's blog, you will need to explain your reasoning for each step. Doctor Watson left a number of the important details out in his attempt to make it more--" He sighed. "--romantic."

"You mean, besides everything? They're good kids, on the most part, but still: teenagers."

"And idiots," Sherlock pointed out with all due kindness. "Same as everyone else in the world."

Steve considered asking if Sherlock knew a man named Tony Stark, but ultimately did not. "Oh, I wouldn't go that far."

"Of course you wouldn't. You're an idiot."

And now they were beyond even Tony's levels of annoying genius. "Actually, I'm not."

"Yes you are," Sherlock replied with an annoyed huff at having to even explain this. "Nearly everyone is. But I've learned to live with that."

And mock people when the mood struck him.

"John should be arriving this weekend. I'm sure you two will get on smashingly."

He really wasn't, but he also wasn't the sort of person who felt the need to defend his own intelligence. "And who or what is John?"

"My colleague." Sherlock seemed a bit too pleased about this. Well, as much as he could be. "A soldier like you."

So he was the Steve in this equation. Surely his name was not Watson. That would be ridiculous. "I'll have to buy him a drink," he said, and meant it.

Oh, utterly ridiculous!

"Please, he left me to deal with children while he flitted about the world. He's in Caracas as far as I know."

After all those horrible Portalocity transfers he'd definitely need a drink. "Well, you did choose to teach at a high school," Steve said, like he wasn't sure what Sherlock had been expecting to happen there. "What's he doing in Venezuela?"

"My brother chose it," Sherlock nearly hissed. Mycroft was now and always a touchy subject. "Layover. Istanbul before that."

His brother sent his friend to Venezuela? "That's a long flight to get to Virginia. Where was he to start?"

Do keep up, Steve.

"London." Of course.

Did his brother hate his friend? Or was he trying to give him a break? "Of course."

Sherlock looked at him out of the corner of his eye for a moment before attempting normal social mores. "And your--classes."

"What about them?" Steve asked.

"How are they?"

"Small," Steve said, "but I think it'll be fine." He was attempting to teach the future king of the Inhumans American history and it kind of hurt his brain, but besides that...

Well, he tried!

"History, correct?"

"American military history, yes," Steve confirmed. "It's a niche subject," he said with a shrug.

"I'm sure."
