Demolition and Dynamite; Friday, Third Period [ 09/09 ].
The prosthetic was definitely gone this week; Kūkaku hated that damn thing, but was very satified with the reaction it got last week. Hopefully, it drove the point home, anyway.
Today, they were back in the classroom, and each of desks were set up to look almost like a chemistry lab mixed with a primitive kitchen.
"Welcome back!" she said, greeting the class with an excited grin. "Glad to see you back; I figured last week would have weeded out the weak ones! Today, of course, we're sticking with the basics. If we're going to be blowing shit up, we've got to know what makes bombs go boom! We're gonna make our own gunpowder today, and then test how well you did it by...well...blowing shit up."
Obviously.
"But first, the boring stuff. The nuts and bolts. The minor little details. Gunpowder is my favorite way to blow shit up. It's just traditional, and making it can be as fun as the end result, too. You can use it for almost anything, most importantly fireworks, of which I'm particularly good at, if I may say. We got," she lifted up her hand to hold up her fingers, counting it off, "sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate. You can actually skip the sulfur, but it makes it no where near as powerful, so what would be the point? When it burns, it burns fast, as it should, and it'll make hot gas of carbon dioxide, water, and nitrogen, which creates the propellant. It is, admittedly, a low explosive, which makes it a good one for beginners like yourself, but it's also the most fun to work with. It really gets your hand dirty. But, think about it, this is the shit used in guns, so it can't damage the barrel of a shotgun while it blows the bullet out."
She went on into more of the technicals, rattling off the formulas and chemical details like it was the weather, turning around to scratch a few of them out on the board in a rough script for the real dorks who might be taking notes. Still, after she'd finished with all of that, she stepped back and looked on it fondly, because it was a thing of beauty, even she had to admit.
"Okay," Kūkaku whipped back around with her wolfish grin at the students. We won't even mention what happened to the rest of her front with that sharp of a turn. "Enough talk, onto the good stuff. We're going to make gunpowder of our very own!"
And, of course, she was going to demonstrate, pointing out all the elements and steps as she did, until she had a nice bowl of powder in front of her and then held up a match.
"And finally..."
She dropped the match into the bowl, sending up an impressive spark.
"Ya gotta test it."
Of course, theirs wouldn't be so colourful and impressive as Kūkaku's. She may have slipped in a few extra things.
"Give it a try, test it out, and then make up a new batch, because we ain't finished yet. But I'll get to that once we've got our powder. Lemme know if you have questions. Please don't blow off any limbs or your neighbour's faces when you give it a try.

Listen to the Lecture -- D&D, 09/09.
However, it does give her more forgotten asset some face time.
And, no, not the stub, although that's probably fairly fascinating to watch, too.

To his credit, Bruce was only distracted by the chest a couple times. That was focus.

And enjoy it.

Part of defending Gotham was going to have to include scaring criminals. A bigger explosion was a scarier explosion.

Blow Things Up -- D&D, 09/09.
"Nice work, everyone. Now let's really have some fun. TO THE DANGER SHOP! And we'll blow shit up! Once we're there, we'll have access to lots of different
moddablethings that you can stuff your gunpowder into, light the match, back the hell up, and watch it go! Everyone make sure you grab some safety goggles, too. Sure, we'll be in the Danger Shop, but I still don't want anyone getting a beer can in their eye."You heard the woman. To the Danger Shop! To blow things up!

Random, I know!It was fun and if pieces happen to scatter, they wouldn't do much damage.Re: Blow Things Up -- D&D, 09/09.
The old dollhouse she'd selected went up like a pyrotechnic work of art.
Re: Blow Things Up -- D&D, 09/09.
It exploded in a poof of burning fluff.
"Now that's a class activity," he said.
Talk to the TA -- D&D, 09/09.
Also, if you do wind up blowing off a limb, she'll get to fetch it. That's her job.
