Food Appreciation [Week 2, Period 4, Mon. 9/6]
Today, class was in the Danger Shop, where John had told the computer to create the perfect day for a barbecue cookout - an outdoor picnic with wooden tables and benches and lots of green grass and blue skies. It was Labor Day and very culturally appropriate. Also, John could get behind things like potato salad, cole slaw, pulled pork, and BBQ ribs anytime. He welcomed the class with a friendly smile and started yammering so they could get to the eating part.
"Welcome back! You guys are in luck 'cause even though this is a holiday and you might be groaning that Fandom doesn't seem to celebrate all the holidays, at least our class is having a celebratory cookout. This is barbecue, a food common to summer and the south. What we have for you try here is a variety of ways people prepare and cook pork and beef over, uh, different types of fire. Really, do we care how they cook it? No, just that it tastes good. Now, I warn you, sometimes BBQ can be spicy, so I got a variety, though nothing that'll set your tongue on fire if you're concerned." As much fun as that would be, he didn't need to hear the whining. "Because of the burn, BBQ's usually served with cool stuff like cole slaw and potato salad, which we also have. Along with iced tea since you guys are too young for me to feel right giving you the beer and not making you pay through the nose for it. No point putting Tino out of a job." Fun as that could be.
"Anyhow, you guys need to learn something, right? So I want you to try at least two things and then see if you can't get one of them in someone else's hair." John grinned. "Not that I would ever encourage a food fight." Even if potato salad was the best projectile at a party.

And then he'd retaliate if someone did manage to hit him. Right now, the food was the priority.

"Hey," she said by way of greeting.

"Hey, uh... How's the war going out there?"

Purposely looking in the other direction, Kon casually used his telekinesis to flip the plate Calvin was holding toward his face.

And maybe she was putting potato salad on her spoon in order to see how well it catapulted.

He grabbed a handful of coleslaw and flung it at John, before turning away and trying to look innocent.
