Good morning, all. Class registration is still open until the end of today, I believe, but make up your minds quickly, please. We'll have our first vocabulary quizzes on Monday.

Also start thinking about your first in-class presentations, as we'll want to start those by the end of the month. Anything cultural or historical relating to the languages you're studying is a good subject. Plan to speak for approximately ten minutes. Visuals are encouraged. If you need a projector or VCR let me know in advance so I can arrange with A/V.

I'll pass around a sign-up sheet for you to list your presentation subjects next week. If you want to team up with someone, please see me first.

Indo-European is a theoretical language, meaning that it was retro-developed given commonalities between words for the same things in various known languages. For example, the word for 'father' has similar sounds: 'Vater', 'Pater', and so on . . .
