BWI Airport | Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning | August 28

In most instances, no one would bat an eye at seeing a boy and his dog. In this instance, some people might actually run away screaming at the sight of this boy and this dog. Percy Jackson didn’t look all that intimidating on his own. He was average height, dark haired and carried a ball point pen in the pocket of his jeans.

Of course, the huge hellhound sitting behind Percy might have turned a few heads if not for the Mist. Thankfully, most mortals didn’t see Mrs. O’ Leary, Percy’s inherited hellhound sitting lazily in the BWI airport lounge (how the hellhound had fit, Percy didn’t know).

Percy himself didn’t look as relaxed as his dog. His eyes were jumping left to right, almost as if he expected something to attack him or for Luke to emerge from the crowd with that more smirk than smile look on his face.

This was about the fourteenth school Percy had been to since age twelve. He didn’t expect it to last. He wanted to be at Camp Half Blood. Instead, he was waiting in an airport lounge for a shuttle to cart him and his hellhound to a place called Fandom.

Percy frowned. He didn’t think this day could get worse.

[Open shuttle bus! Mrs. O’ Leary is a big ole hellhound that most mortals probably would not see because of something called the Mist. If you’re not exactly all the way mortal, you’d see her though. She’s not going to attack anyone, I promise.]

"Not really," Elphaba said. There was something, of course, but she wasn't supposed to talk about that. It only happened when she got upset and something came over her, so she didn't like to talk about it, either. "I'm just a normal girl. Or, as normal as you can be like this."

Hm.

Well, she looked nice anyway. "Ah well, I think green looks good on you anyway." And it wasn't a lie, really." Then Zatanna supposed she would keep her own magic at bay.

Elphaba gave Zatanna a look. "It's certainly a new approach to teasing me," she said, unable to take her words as genuine.

"Not teasing, word. I'm really sucky at picking on people." First time someone really wanted to beleive she wasn't being nice at her.

"My name is Elphaba, not Word," she said. "I'm not sure why you'd want to suck anything, unless it was juice from a fresh fruit."

The English slang was going to baffle Elphaba for such a long time.

"Hm. Alright, let's try again. I have never liked to bother others, to bully them; actually I guess I'm pretty bad at that." They would need to work on her slang.

"And I'm Zatanna, nice to meet you."

That, at least, was a proper sounding Ozian name. "It is nice to meet you, as well," Elphaba said. "Are you from Gillikin country?"

She seemed like someone from the north.

"I'm more a San Fran kind of girl, sorry. I don't think I know of Gilikin." Which was a fine excuse to hit the books as soon as she could.

"Mind giving me any pointers? Like, in which country is that?"

"Part of Oz, of course," Elphaba said. Her expression fell a bit. "And I do not mean Australia."

There had been enough talk of this 'Australia' place already.

Now she really needed to hit the books.

"I think we don't come from the same place. Or rather, your place and my place aren't in the...same place. Or something." How to put it simple? Oh!

"It's magic, I think." That was the universal explanation, after all.

That was a good enough explanation for Elphaba. She nodded. "I am not too familiar with the lands outside of the great deserts. Everything here is all so new and different."

It scared her, not that she was willing to admit that to anyone.

She knew the feeling of being in new and weird places very well. "Don't worry, you'll have time to get used and everything. I can help too, if you want." Because she was nice like that!

"I would like that," Elphaba said, still having trouble accepting the girl's genuine nature. "I have a feeling I will have many questions, so I won't try to bother you with all of them."

"Well, what I can answer, I will, but I'm sure there are a lot of people that know more than me", answered as she thought of teachers and adults in general. "I have a lot of questions myself."
