Competitive Cooking - Wednesday, Period 3 [8/18]

"Hey, everyone," Piper greeted as students started to arrive. "Welcome to the final class. And you survived."

As did the kitchen and all the appliances. Piper was pretty proud of that fact.

"Since this feels a bit celebratory, your assignment today is to pair up and bake a cake. Any kind you want. It can even be for any occasion. All I ask is that you have fun with it," she continued. "And if you need me or any of the TAs, we're around."

She grinned, adding, "Good luck!"

"I don't make cakes a lot either," Tara said with a little shrug. "I mean, even if we mess up, we still get cake, right?"

"Right," Peter said. "So it's flour, eggs, sugar, and flour, right? Plus chocolate?"

"And sour cream and butter, I think," Tara nodded. "Are there cookbooks somewhere?"

"Sour cream?" Peter said, a little surprised. "You can tell baking isn't my forte. I'm sure there has to be one somewhere."

He started looking around. "I mean, it would make sense."

"Yeah, it makes it ... I dunno. Moister or creamier or sour-er, or something."

She stretched and pulled a cookbook off the shelf. "A-ha!"

"Perfect," Peter said, now starting to scrounge up at least the ingredients he knew about. "The real question is does it have the recipe we need?"
