Infiltration and Advanced Sneakiness [Tuesday, August 17]

"Welcome to your final class," Anakin said, sweeping into the Danger Shop, today set up as a gigantic empty docking bay. "Today you're job is to sneak through this ~~fully armed and operational~~ battle station past the ~~kind of stupid~~ heavily armed and extremely paranoid Stormtroopers, and turn off the shield that is keeping you trapped on this ship.

He waved a hand and a ~~completely incomprehensible~~ detailed map of the interior of the, frankly, enormous, ship sprung to life in three dimensions. "You are here," he said, pointing, "and need to get here--which is ten kilometers away."

Anakin didn't believe in easy scenarios, no.

"Team up, go alone--just get to the shield generator, switch it off and return here without getting captured or killed. You have only what you've brought with you, or what you can find or take on your way. May the Force be with you."

As it happens, there's a room next to the docking bay full of Stormtrooper uniforms--no guns, though--if that might help you...

Leia didn't remember this from what she knew about the Clone Wars, so she couldn't cheat. But she figured it might be wise to have a partner in this, so she waited to see if someone wanted to pair up.

Bobby grinned at Leia. "Need a sneaking partner?" he asked. He really wasn't a working-solo kind of guy.

Leia, on the other hand, did sometimes enjoy working Solo. ~~*rimshot*~~

"Sure," Leia said. "Got any great ideas? That map didn't exactly give us anything to work with."

"Seriously, is a little 'you are here' marker too much to ask?" Bobby griped.

"I don't think it's possible for us to go 10 kilometers and back in the span of this class," Leia sighed. "Unless there's a transport system. There must be a transport system. But we can't just walk around like this."

Bobby... probably could've managed it with his ice-slide, but 1) indoors that was generally a bad idea (even fake indoors) and 2) public setting. So no.

"We could just keep poking at doors until we find one that looks like an elevator?" Bobby suggested.

Bobby was not a strategist, no.

"We'd better check fast," Leia advised, "before someone comes across us just standing her. Come on."

The bay was empty so far, so she moved over to the closest door and peered inside. "How do you feel about playing dress up?" she asked Bobby, looking back over her shoulder.

Bobby followed her gaze, inspecting the uniforms. "I love dressing up," he declared. "It's like Halloween, only with people trying to kill you."

"I'd just as soon skip the killing part," Leia said. "Suit up. I'll see if I can find you a weapon." But looking around, that didn't seem likely.

Bobby tried not to let his distaste show in his expression at the mention of a weapon, and then grabbed a set of armor that looked like it might fit.

"So... how do I look?" he asked, once he'd pulled the whole thing on, complete with dorky helmet.

Leia cocked her head. "A little short for a stormtrooper, but you'll pass," she decided.

No weapons, but she had found the other thing she was looking for, a pair of handcuffs that she put on her own wrists, loose enough for her to slip out of. "And I'm your prisoner," she said.

Sitting idly in his spot might not be the best strategy ever.

But was he getting spotted? Nay!

He seriously needed one of those suits and a plan.

Jason looked around to see if anyone wanted a partner. He still preferred to work alone, but he knew he had to get used to working with others if he was going to make Bruce happy.

Katniss didn't particularly want a partner, either, but she couldn't deny the value of an ally -- particularly one who wouldn't be limited by the thinking of Panem, like she occasionally was. Plus, Haymitch and Peeta would be happy to see her trying. "Want to work together?"

There was only a moment's hesitation on Jason's end - really, he was going to have to get over the whole "working with girls" thing - before he nodded. "Sure. Do you think he's going to make this really hard for us?" he asked.

"I think he will," Katniss said carefully. "He doesn't seem the sort to let us get by on luck."

"Yeah, I think you're right," Jason said. "Did you get anything out of that map? It didn't look very helpful to me."

"It was, um...dense," Katniss said, having the grace to look embarrassed. "But it at least looked like there were multiple options, as far as route went. It seems like our best bet might be to disguise ourselves and follow people."

"And let the others who might understand the map lead the way?" Or be the first cannon fodder. "That sounds like a good idea. There's got to be disguises around here. I don't think he'd leave that part out for us."

"Not after a whole term of playing dress-up," Katniss said, peeking into a few rooms before finding the one with the Stormtrooper outfits and gesturing for Jason to follow.

Jason followed her and eyed the outfits as he went in. "Seriously? Aren't these a little...complicated?"

"Yeah," Katniss said with distaste. "Bulky, too. Definitely not what I'd choose."

And that? Would be Alice resisting the urge to just zip through the room.

Instead, she stuck to the shadows.
