Unlike last week, Fraser was in class today. He looked a little abashed about missing last week and a little stressed about other things but he was there.

"Good morning. I'd like to apologize for my absence last week though I think most of us had other things on our minds," he started, nodding. "I hope you all are all right, unscathed or, otherwise, recovering from the events of the previous week. Today, we're going to take it easy while still going through our next sense. The sense of touch. Touch is an extraordinarily important sense for many people. For the blind, they use use their fingers to read braille. For the deaf, they use it to feel vibrations. For others, we use it to feel textures, feel temperatures, to talk, to gesture, to do so many things."

Fraser even gestured a bit when he talked here, using his hands to demonstrate that. "The sense of touch is very important. Most people can discern what certain things are just by touching it. They don't seen to see or smell or hear it, they can touch it and the know from past experiences that they're touching something soft or something cold or something sticky. Their brain has that knowledge stored and provides a list of what the item can be. Today, that's what we're going to be doing."

He nodded towards a table where blindfolds, headphones and noseplugs existed. "Please put those on so you'll only be relying on your sense of touch. On the table, under the tarp are several things that you'll be touching. Using only your fingers, you're going to have to try and figure out what you're touching. Sound good? Let's begin."

Listen, take notes, eye the tarps, talk to each other, whatever!

Claudia was definitely eying the tarps a little warily. She didn't think Fraser was the sort to give them something totally gross to stick their hands in, but you never knew. . . .

On the table are:

Ice cubes
A stuffed teddy bear
A cactus
A rough piece of wood
A leaf
Pudding
A key
A pillow
A warming (but not scalding) plate
A flower

Put on the gear and touch all of them, some of them, or one of them and try to guess what they are by touch alone!

Naturally, the first thing Claudia went to touch was the pudding.

"Uh, I don't think I wanna know."

"Do you find it unpleasant?" Fraser wondered. "Or something else?"

Honestly, it was mostly that it was reminding things she'd spent the week carefully not thinking about. But she was not thinking about that.

"It's . . . squishy."

"If I said that you could lick your fingers, would you?" Fraser wondered.

Claudia hesitated. ". . . It's food? You're not getting me to lick mud or something, right?"

"It's not mud," he laughed. "It's food. I promise you, it's not going to make you sick."

Claudia still looked dubious, but cautiously lifted one of her hands to lick her finger. She brightened.

"Oh! . . . It still feels gross, though."

"I thought it might but it's interesting that you automatically went for something gross rather than something good," he replied.

"It's . . . maybe been that kind of week."

"Understandable," Fraser said, nodding. "It's chocolate pudding so you're free to eat some more if you'd like. There's spoons beside the bowl."

The first thing Christian touched was smooth, hard, and almost unpleasantly warm. "A stone," he guessed. "One that's been out in the sun."

The first thing Bruce touched was the cactus. "Ah!" Bruce yelled in surprise. He was lucky he reached in relatively carefully just in case.

Who ain't bothered by it being Friday the 13th!

Of course not? That was just some superstitious mumbo jumbo like werewolves and leeches. Jake made his own luck, thank you very much.

Yeah, neither Firekeeper nor Blind Seer had any idea of the significance of the 13th. "Luck" was such a human concept.

Who is getting married tomorrow!

It's been a long week.
