Home Ec is Outrageous!; Monday, Period Five [ 08/09 ].

"Well, then!" said Aquaman as the class gathered for the day. "We've all had quite the outrageous, exciting weekend, haven't we? Thankfully, do I have the easy class for you today, as well as someone who might help get you through the week!"

It was at that moment that, with a great dramatic flair, Aquaman yanked off the sheet that had been covering the table to reveal a whole collection of various different goldfish swimming around in lazy circles in little glass bowls.

"Aren't they adorable? And, this week, they'll be your children, because today's lesson is about being a good parent and the importantance of children well-raised in a society cough cough line about Little Sisters here cough. The family is the very crux of every household! And while I hope you've still got some time before you need to worry about settling down with little kiddies, preparation is often half the battle! I myself have a son, Arthur Jr! He's just about a teenager himself, so the road's probably just about to get bumpier."

On that note, Aquaman turned toward the board and lifted his marker.

"Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation." C. Everett Coop was written with the requisite squeaking strokes of his pen.

He took a step back to admire the words of wisdom.

"So!" Clapping his hands, he did a turn to face the class again. "Today, we're going to watch a film about the adventures inherant in being a parent! Happiness is one of the most important elements to a well-run household, and happiness goes with family and love! But before we settle in for that, let me introduce you to this week's assignment! Congratulations! It's a baby fish!"

Aquaman chuckled, clearly pleased with himself and this idea. "Come on up, and each of you claim your adopted son or daughter for the next week! A fish, generally, is far less demanding of you than a real child, it's true, but this is going to be more than just feeding them and keeping their water clean! I expect you to interact with this fish as you would a real child; talk to it, care for it, love it and treat it well! Don't let it die, which, for goldfish, is more difficult than you'd think! And don't just go an replace it with a new one. Believe me, I'll know. I'll know a lot of things about how your week with your fish went, from the guppy's mouth itself, as they say!"

"So come claim your fish, get to know him or her a little better, and have watching the film be your first activity together as a new family! I've brought plenty of popcorn and fish flakes! It should be a nice, wholesome activity to help you get back into the swing of things this week!"

Jono mostly spent the lecture staring at his desk. Something about fish, something about a film, okay.

At this point, it was sort of like a miracle that he'd managed to pull on a turtleneck this morning, since his bandages were shredded and gone. Again.

Hinata fidgeted uncomfortably in her black shirt--very simple, very plain, except for the fact that the sleeves were fishnet--as she listened to the lecture.

Her jacket had been ruined and she needed to buy a new one which left her feeling uncomfortably vulnerable.

Alex was just going to sit there and listen to the lecture as best she could and you know, try not to nod off at her desk. Considering how little sleep she got last night? Well, that might be a bit of a challenge.

By the time it came to choose a fish, at least Jono was a little more with it. He hesitated for a bit once he was up at the front of the room, looking over the variety of brightly-coloured, gorgeous animals.

And then he settled on the ugliest fish that he could find, mottled in shades of black and brown, and with a pair of ugly bulgy eyes.

He was going to lovingly name it Hendrix.

Even after spending the weekend in some underwater he'll, Chuck still couldn't bring himself to have anything against something so bright.

He picked out a gold and white fish and leaned down to put it at eyelevel once it was on a desk. "So. I think you're a guy fish." No idea why, but he was going with it.

Hinata was severely dubious about this whole assignment, to be entirely honest, and she was frowning as she looked over her pale orange fish.

"A-Ano," she told it, "I should name you but of higher priority will be keeping Yei away from you."

Which was a venture she suspected was going to be interesting.

Alex was glad that she was getting to choose a fish instead of a crab. She wasn't sure she'd be able to look at crabs (any kind, for that matter) for a while.

She picked a particularly bright (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/32/FT2.jpg) fish with a pretty tail. She wasn't sure what to name it but she was fairly certain it was a female.

Medusa selected a fish and frowned at it thoughtfully. Keeping Lockjaw from killing it was going to be. Interesting. He probably wouldn't eat it, but there was always the possibility he would...play with it to death.

Cara frowned at the tank of fish, wondering if she could somehow not pick a fish and then claim it got eaten.

There were unresolved issues where Cara and tiny fish were concerned.

Jono passed up on the popcorn entirely, yes. Every now and again, gave give Hendrix a fish flake or two. He really wasn't paying much attention to the film. A floppy bug-eyed goldfish after the worst weekend ever was entirely too distracting for that sort of thing.

Fishes! I haven't kept fishies since before I moved across the country, but my two aquariums are sitting... watching... waiting.

I used to keep African Cichlids. They had personality, omg. I named them after the Three Stooges. But I had to give them away, woe.

I got a fishie in a bag from a church fair when I was six!

... Turned out it was made of carrot. I was sad.

Our cats had this insane super power of getting at our fish no matter how secure we kept the tanks. Even putting it way out of their possible reach would still see the tank on the floor within the next week and another dead fishy.

We don't keep fish any more.
