Private Investigation: The Essentials [Monday, Period Four]

Today, the Private Investigations workshop met in a regular classroom, with a TV and DVD player set up at the front of the room.

"All right, kiddos, so today we were gonna do pub fights, but we've all had a bit of a busy weekend, so instead you get a nice and easy class. We're gonna watch Emerged From Antiquity and after the film's over, I'd like each of ye to come up with one major difference between the way detectives worked in the time period this movie was made, and the way they work today."

And with that, he pressed play on the remote and started the film.

Normally Bruce would take some notes of the differences in detectives' methods but he really just didn't have the energy for it today. He just watched the movie silently, making mental notes instead.

Ben was staring in the general direction of the movie, but unless he really called upon his perfect recall, he'd have no idea what it was about.

Harper dutifully watched the movie for five minutes before closing her eyes. A little nap sounded like a good idea.

Momoko tried, she really did. But she ended up asleep long before she could figure out whether or not she even liked the film.

She'd totally rent it and watch it later, really.

Momoko blinked. She'd managed to pick up very little in the time she was awake, except that there was a romance triangle (or quadrangle?) and guns and people that smoked a lot wearing nice clothes.

"The private detective got personally involved in the case," she ventured. "That's not supposed to happen, right?"

"...It's pretty unprofessional," Jake said with a nod. Not that that had stopped him from getting, uh "involved" in some of his cases.

"So that's one difference." Momoko nodded and tried to stifle a yawn. "Also, there were a lot of guns. Everyone had guns. And no one did a lot of research, it was a lot of luck happening."

That was pretty much all she could remember. And that last bit was kind of shaky, since she had fallen asleep fairly early in the plot.
