Heroes v Villains | Period 1 | Wednesday | August 4

Sadly, the students weren't in the Danger Shop today which meant Loki couldn't send them to fake jail in their orange jumpsuits. Alas, he'd get over it but he was still sad. He waited until everyone filed in before starting the lecture.

"Today," he started easily, "we're going to be talking about activism. Activism, for those that don't know, is intentional action to bring about social, economic, or political change. Simply put, you've gotten up off your ass to change things because you don't like the status quo. Now, most of the time, this is seen as a very fucking good thing. And I agree. If things stayed stagnant and the same, this fucking planet would be boring as shit. Activists help change things. Very rarely is it an immediate change, though. It takes time, it takes money, it takes passion and it takes a lot of fucking commitment."

Loki paused and got up from his desk to circle in front of it. "Unfortunately, sometimes people take it too far and completely fucking skew the point they're trying to get across. Look, if you walk into a medical establishment and blow it up because you don't agree with what they're doing? You're not a fucking activist, you're a murderer. The thing you're working to change is going to get buried under your act of violence. Sure, you'll be seen as a martyr to your small group but it takes more than a small group to bring about change. That small group starts it but it takes their time and commitment to try and sway the opinion of the masses. If you're going around killing people and blowing shit up in the name of your cause? It's probably not going to work."

Of course, humanity was a fucking cesspool sometimes so Loki figured that kind of shit might work somewhere. Humans liked their violence. "So, why do you some people go to the lengths they do in the name of their cause? Why do they kill others because they disagree with their ways? I don't fucking know. Humans like to kill each other, simple as that. When there's an easy reason, they like it even more. Hey, maybe they think if they kill everyone that disagrees with them, their cause will be default and they won't have to be active anymore. Let me tell you right fucking now, that won't work. It's been tried in the past and while it's been effective at times, it doesn't work as an endgame. Stop fucking killing people in the name of your cause. Just fucking stop it. A gun isn't going to get people to listen. It's going to make people piss their pants."

Loki...had experience with that one, unfortunately. Ew. "Everyone has the right to fight for what they believe in. If I believe that Principal Winchester was an alien and I wanted to an aliens from administrative positions, that would be my fucking cause and it'd be up to me to convince you guys to agree. Now, if I blew all of you up with a bomb, would that be helpful? Fucking no. If I showed you literature, showed you studies, spoke truthfully, that might be heard more than an explosion. Think, people. Fucking think. For today's activity, I'm going to give each of you a cause. You're going to tell me one good and one bad day to be an activist for that cause. Got it? Good. Go.

Raven stared at her assignment. Think of something to argue as a reason for Rumor Gal to be canceled? Loki was clearly insane. This was madness! He'd gone over the line this time!

"I do not understand," she said. "How can I argue for something I do not believe? This would always be bad." It was Rumor Gal! It could never be canceled!

"But I believe all ways would be bad ways," Raven said, frowning. Had Loki never watched the show? He must not have or he would understand her pain right now.

Rosalind was half convinced that Loki spent far too much time attempting to come up with things to make her internally flail.

On the other hand, she had to admit that this was far better a solution for a discussion than talking about their own experiences was, in this particular case.

"For some people sex does happen everyday," she said, frowning at him. "They hardly need more encouragement to do what they want to do and if they want to do that, it's fine. But I won't argue that someone who doesn't want to have that every day should."

Because, well, ew.

Her eyebrows arched.

"Forcing people to have sex would be a revolting and horrifying way to get it across," Rosalind replied crisply. "Informing them of the benefits--increased relaxation, lessing of stress, would be more productive."

Not that knowing that did anything for her. She just didn't care and hadn't ever had the time or interest to get up to any of that.

"Better?"

Azula didn't like to fail, she was competitive and a perfectionist (too much of one her doctors in the facility claimed) but for the life of her Azula couldn't summon enough of a motivation to care about fishsticks.

"You do this on purpose." She stated.

"If I must," she said with a rather put upon expression. "Fish sticks should be the only food in class because it is nutritious, delicious and healthy and all the other food are poison to the body."

"Pointing out the evidence that seeing pretty people shirtless makes people happy, which is good for everyone, would be the good way to go about it," Emma replied easily. "Lighting their shirts on fire while they're still wearing them would be bad."

Karla thought for a few minutes. "For a good way, I could build the ultimate treehouse and invite people for tours so they could see the many amenities that treehouses had to offer. Also, I could subsidize treehouse building and renting, so that treehouses became a more affordable option. For bad ways, lighting houses on fire so people can't live in them anymore is probably high up there."

She winced at that. Poor Mrs. Beale's kitchen. Poor Uncle Saetan, for having to face Mrs. Beale.

"No, because eventually that would cease to have the same kind of impact," Karla said thoughtfully. "Unless I wanted to burn down every structure that could pass for a dwelling ever and that would take too long. I'd probably have to move to something else before too long."

Sara was, to put it lightly, utterly horrified by the concept.

"Why," she demanded, eyes flashing and lips set in indignation, "on earth would I ever argue for such an awful thing as burning a book?"

Anyone inclined to listen for such things in her tone might almost be able to hear the crackling of fire in the question.

Squall crossed his arms and steadfastly refused to say anything.

Also, he ripped a sheet of paper out of his notebook and wrote on it:

bad way:
YOU SHOULD ALL SHUT UP BECAUSE YOU ARE ANNOYING

"Cutting the tires of all the cars would be a bad idea," Jake decided. "Pointing out that it's healthy and helps the environment would be less likely to get your ass arrested."

Excuse Jono for a moment. He was just going to hold his sides and close his eyes and shake for a moment. It wasn't quite laughter, but it was as close as he could bloody well get, and so he was going to, thank you.

//That would be cruel and unusual punishment to th'world at large in its own right, you know.//

Wow, he'd needed that laugh.

Jason wasn't sure if he could kill Loki with his glare, but damn if he wasn't going to try. "I...don't even know where to start with this," he said.
