Carpe Diem: Making Your Lives Extraordinary, Period 4, Class 5

Drake began the class by rocking out to Whitney Houston (before she went crazy):

"Well, greatest love and worst love if you abuse it," Drake said. "I'm not saying I want you all to be little egomaniacs bent on taking over the world, however fun that may seem at the time, but loving yourself and having a positive self-image is the key to carping your diem. You can't live life to the fullest unless you know just how awesome you are. I know, I know, easier said than done. So here are a few things I want you to always keep in mind:

"Don't sweat the small stuff. Figure out what you're really good at and cultivate that. Realize that you have limits, nobody's perfect, and that's not a bad thing. Don't put yourself down -- nothing is going to decarpe that diem than telling yourself you're a loser or a failure. If something goes wrong, try again, or just move on. If it works out, celebrate! And most importantly, tell yourself how awesome you are, but don't lose sight of how awesome other people are, too.

"So that's what I want you to do for me today. This is your free pass to brag. Tell me how awesome you are. Tell me the cool things you've done or are going to do. C'mon, let's hear it."

Bod hadn't expected an impromptu concert of sorts but it was entertaining and enjoyable. It was nothing he'd ever do but he liked it anyway.

Alex had to admit she'd enjoyed the song. It'd probably be stuck in her head for the rest of the day.

Okay, Whitney Houston, not her thing, but. Unexpected concert. You know? Kennedy was really going to miss Drake when he had to...

Man, she didn't even want to think about that.

She was also having a little trouble grasping the point he was trying to get at, because it wasn't like she didn't already know how awesome she was, right?

...except for the whole bit about how not having Slayer powers kept chapping her ass, so the point was kind of whizzing right over her head.

Uhura scribbled down the words. She would look up the song and learn to sing it later, because it was FABULOUS.

She hummed the tune to herself.

As long as they didn't have to sing along...

It was the earworm from hell. Dru would like to die now please.

Bragging time! Tell the class just how awesome you are.

"I am a damn good Healer, Black Widow, and I will be a damn good Queen when I'm old enough to set up my Court," Karla said, chin high. "I will honor the old ways and the Darkness, even as I move forward into the future."

[Now 100% in the right thread!]

Drake snapped his fingers and conjured up pom poms. "You go girl!" he said, shaking them.

Chloe was playing with her hair nervously.

"I'm going to be a damned good writer and when it's time, I'll write screen plays and become a talented and famous movie director."

Because, let's face it, just because you were famous in your field, it didn't me that you were any good.

"Hey, don't be nervous," Drake said. "You're going to write amazing stories and receive critical acclaim at the box office. That's awesome!"

"I grew up in a graveyard, raised by ghosts and I'm well adjusted, intelligent and uniquely strange," he started, instilling confidence in his voice. "I know about things from people who were there whereas most people only know by reading books."

"Books are great, but to really be out there and living the kind of stuff you only read about, that's amazing," Drake said. "You're a special snowflake, and I totally mean that in a good way."

"I really like people," Didi began. "I'm kind as much as I can be, but I have a sense of humor. I'm really good at what I do. I'm a good big sister."

"I helped save the worlds from a demon race that had taken them over," Helen said. "I think that's fairly awesome."

There was really only one thing Ellie could contribute to this discussion. "I'm an awesome big sister."

At least she hoped she was.

"I am an excellent prankster," Bobby said proudly.

"I can speak Vulcan, Klingon, Romulan, Andorian, and Swahili fluently. I can also sing very well," Uhura said firmly.

"Part of my job back home is protecting people," Zack said, sticking his chest out a little and looking totally proud of that fact. "From monsters, or from other people who would hurt them, or machinery gone haywire... Or anything. That's SOLDIER."

No matter what other baggage came along with the job.

"I'm good at taking care of myself," Jason said. "In just about any situation. I know people who can't say that, so..."

"I'm really good with computers," Tim said. "I built my own laptop."

He's awesome! Thanks for asking!

They're awesome!

Didi was awesome in all senses of the word, thank you. She was scribbling down a couple thoughts during class.

Bobby was completely awesome. And also, you know, here. Unlike the past couple weeks.

HAHAHA TAKE IT AND LOVE IT.

And now I will be singing this and Whitney Houston from now on. And most likely, all night at work.
