"I'm having to apologize again for my absence," he grins sheepishly. ~~Damn power cable~~ "However, I hope that any more trips I have to make in the future will at least let me give you some warning, and hopefully line up a substitute."

"Right. Today I'd like to follow up on some of the harsh consequences on extreme gender ideology. Now, I understand that these are not pleasant topics, and if you feel that you can't deal with them, then by all means, you are excused from class today.

The first thing is Female Genital Mutliation.

I also touched upon China's One Child Policy, so we'll look at that in more detail.

But, the Western World, also discriminates against girls still... admittedly, not to the extent of the two examples I've just given you. In careers, there is a great divide in tech-related ones between male and female workers. However, there are programs in place to try and reduce that divide, such as the Connecticut Girls and Technology Network

Now, for homework, I'd like you to look for and write about an example of gender discrimination and/or the consequences of extreme gender ideology. For those of you not from this time, I'm perfectly happy to accept studies from your own home.

After doing the reading on FGM-FC, Ivanova is, in a word, rageful. She flings up her hand. "Dr. Jackson? Men are pigs."

"I do hope you're not including all men in that statement, Ms Ivanova," he smiles, before turning serious. "But I do understand where you're coming from. There are some men, for whom the term "pig" is letting them off lightly."

Ivanova waves a hand. "Of course I'm not including all men in that umbrella statement, but I just cannot believe that these kinds of cultural attitudes can exist so recently! Alright, limited dress and contact with other people or races I can kind of understand, if not condone. But violating basic bodily integrity - with such a high chance of very serious health problem - for no reason other than to protect a tenuous hold on some kind of male hegemony is utter ridiculous!"

[[I squicked out my entire class with my diagrams during a presentation about this. And then raged. For about an hour until the teacher told me to sit down.]]

"Exactly. It is utter ridiculous, and something that many organizations are trying to prevent from happening."

[[Ha! Go you! My teacher knew me too well... she wouldn't let me do a presentation on it and made me chose another topic!]]

[[Yeah, that was supposed to be 'utterly ridiculous'. She learned her lesson and made me change my topic for the final seminar]]

Ivanova grumbles. "Well that's a relief, then . . . ~~I can say that it will be entirely wiped out in the next two hundred years~~ But how effective can any kind of foreign agency be in preventing FGM from happening in the places where it is most needed, like in the most remote or insular regions of Africa? I mean, look at population control methods, or debt relief, or famine relief. Almost all of it ineffective."

"~~That's certainly good to hear~~ Again, a very good point there, Miss Ivanova. Most of the problems with aid is that it never reaches the desperate. However, when it's the only thing you can do, you just do it regardless."

*DEATH, still wearing a slew of ideological buttons, many of which disagree with each other, looks mildly confused.*

Daniel blinks.

"Well, our anatomy is comprises a vital part of ourselves."
