Carpe Diem: Making Your Lives Extraordinary, Period 4, Class 3

Drake had commandeered the Danger Shop for class today and had had a fun time programming it that morning, if by "programming" you meant "poking at buttons and hoping for the best." It currently looked like an amusement park from hell, including a roller coaster, a drop tower, and...a pit of wriggling snakes (all non-poisonous) and a large glass box full of tarantulas.

There was also a blackboard upon which was written:
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."

~ Eleanor Roosevelt
"Ella there knew her stuff," Drake said. "Sometimes people let their fear get in the way of living their lives to the fullest. Fear of failure, fear of rejection -- those are the big ones. And I could just stand up here and lecture to you about facing your fears and conquering them, blah blah blah, but instead I'm going to give you a challenge. Pick something here that scares you...and just do it. If you're afraid of heights, try the Tower of Terror. If you're afraid of snakes, jump into the snake pit. It's all a hologram, right? So you're not really going to get hurt. But it's a step in the right direction to conquering your fear, and if you can get over arachnophobia or acrophobia, you can get over any fear.

"Now, if you're not afraid of anything, then just have a good time. More power to ya."

Zack contemplated the lecture, looking around at all of the different stops along the way. These all seemed to be manifestations of physical fears... Snakes, falling. Things that could actually seriously harm a person, and things like that weren't generally the sorts of things that Zack shied away from.

He wasn't going to voice that thought aloud, though. His own fear would involve him being shoved into some sort of solitary confinement unit, and that... would suck.

Alex listened to the lecture and glanced around at the Danger Shop simulation. She could rule out the roller coaster but the others... she wasn't so sure about them.

Cloud's face was a big Nothing to see here, move along sign. His fears? They resided on his friends; as long as they were okay, he could suffer endlessly. Touch them, and that would be the last thing you did.

Karla was afraid of a lot of things, but, like so many other people's most of her fears were internal.

Which just meant that she was going to have fun today, dammit.

A note somehow found its way on to Karla's desk.

Being abducted to be fussed over and inspected until someone decides I am not going to faint from nerves or some such nonsense. I hope you're happy.

Bod didn't really have too many fears, not that he wanted manifesting in front of people, so he chose the roller coaster. It was fast, stomach turning and fun. He could deal with that as a class assignment.

Madison's real fears were not something she was willing to broadcast to the class, so she went for the tower of terror.

Didi wasn't afraid of heights, but they were the most intimidating to her of the choices given. She closed her eyes and screamed as the ride fell through the air.

Actually, the snakes were all kind of cute, if you asked Zack. And harmless, to boot!

Which was why Zack settled on the snake pit for today, crouching down and making silly faces at the serpents within. They were so much more friendly than Kusanagi, Ino's snake. And wriggly, too!

None of these things frightened Helen and so since he'd said to just have a good time, she went to play with the spiders, letting them crawl all over her and cooing softly to them.

A world without black eyeliner was just too horrible to imagine.

Though Didi was pondering her real fears as she looked for anyone who might need help.
