Practical Crisis Problem Solving - Danger Shop, Tuesday, Period 3 (11am-12pm)

Oh look, still no exotic locations. The students walking through the Danger Shop doors found themselves in the library. Yes, that library. It was empty aside from the Doctor who was sitting on the collections desk, legs swinging over the edge. There were a few lamps on around the library and moonlight coming in the windows, suggesting it was late at night in here rather than 11am like it was outside.

Once everyone was gathered and the doors were closed, the Doctor leapt off the desk. "Sometimes," the Doctor started, pacing around in the well-lit areas, "you end up somewhere you're not expecting to be. Happens to me all the time. For some of you, even being here is somewhere you're not expecting to be. Wait. Sorry." He paused. "I forgot to say hello. Hello! Very rude of me. As I was saying, you don't always expect to walk head first into a problematic situation. Usually you won't be the only one there. Sometimes you'll be able to leave when others can't.

You have a choice." He looked around at them. "Fight or flight. You could take your leave, walk out and that's a perfectly reasonable solution to the problem. Of course, you'll be leaving everyone else to their own fate. Or you could always choose to stay, putting your life in immediate danger, but you could find out what's going on and help the people around you. Your choice. Make it now."

Karla set her jaw, listening to the Doctor's speech. She really didn't like being reminded about what happens to the people who are left behind. And the Doctor didn't really seem to think that there might be reasons you had to leave in the first place. Like how you don't actually want to go, but your stupid cousin bundles you into a Coach anyway and everyone keeps reminding you that you'll do more good later on...

Yeah, okay, Karla might still have issues. Whatever.

Oh, gods, another no-win scenario. James had his share on both decisions, never sure which was a better choice. Even if the choice made meant that he would be there to regret it later.

James did not hide his scowl. He was not wearing crankypants. They were jeans and they were helping him to blend in.

Listening to the whole suggestion that one could simply walk away from trouble (and it would be trouble, wouldn't it?) had Alexander frowning deeply as he listened...and became incredibly nervous over what awaited for when he stayed.

Madison was pretty sure that it wasn't that easy to walk away from trouble.

Ben listened carefully, but running was never going to be an option for him. It was just how he was built.

The Doctor said there was a choice, but to Clark, there really wasn't.

Cara sidled up to Clark. "You should go." Now, preferably.

"What?" Count Clark surprised she would even think that. "Cara, I don't have a problem fighting." She may have noticed that before.

Cara thought things like that all the time, it was just that the people she thought them about never listened to her when she said them.

"I didn't say you did." If she thought that, she would have already hit him over the head and thrown him out of the Danger Shop, the Doctor frowning upon it or no.

"But you want me to go?" Clark replied, trying to think through this. "You know, if I didn't know better, I'd think you were worried about what was gonna happen after people leave."
wrongkindofsith: (If I make sure it's okay)

"Of course I'm not worried." Whatever the Doctor had planned, Cara doubted he'd actually let anyone get killed just to prove a point. "I just don't need you distracting me." By finding a way to get himself fake-killed.

"Distracting you?" Clark was starting to feel like he was just repeating her a lot today. "You know, I won't get hurt or anything." It kind of wasn't possible. "It's just the danger shop!"
wrongkindofsith: (Not happy Jan)

This would go much easier if Cara possessed even the slightest ability to talk about her issues, or was even able to admit to herself she had any to begin with.

"Fine. Stay. Get fake-killed. See if I care."

"I will." Clark's eyebrows furrowed at the flash of whatever was going on with Cara. "Because it's school and we're supposed to be learning here."

Not that he was learning how to deal with girls. At all.

If Clark wanted to learn about girls, Cara was not a good place to start.

"And you couldn't learn to walk away when someone asks you to?" She hadn't manhandled him out the door. That was totally the same as asking.

"I could. But...if something went wrong, you might need me," Clark reasoned. He couldn't help but wonder what his parents would tell him. What was the right thing to do when you were asked to leave?

"I'll be fine." Mord'Sith didn't need protecting except maybe from themselves.

Clark felt like he was being tested here. And he was going to pass, darn it. "I know you would be, but I'm staying anyway. It would be wrong to leave just to make you happy when there's the chance that my-- that I could be of use."
wrongkindofsith: (Is everyone here completely insane?)

Re: Listen to the Doctor or Talk Amongst Yourselves

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-07-21 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Cara wasn't testing him, she just wanted him safely out of the way where he couldn't do anything stupid and get himself hurt. She was not going to examine why that might be too closely. "You can be of use by staying out of trouble!"

[identity profile] redandblueblur.livejournal.com 2010-07-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
"But I'm the last person who you should worry about!" Clark was beyond confused by this whole mess. Maybe if he'd been honest with her before they wouldn't be having this discussion. Cue the pang of guilt.

Re: Listen to the Doctor or Talk Amongst Yourselves

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-07-21 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it wasn't as if Clark was the only one here who was less than forthcoming about themselves.

"Who said I was worried about you?" Because clearly she had done nothing to give him that impression.

Ow. "No one did," he said, recovering from that verbally even if his face still spoke of shock and hurt.

Diana gnawed on her bottom lip absentmindedly. There really wasn't much of a choice for her.

Makita was annoyed. "I like a good fight," she said, accent slightly thicker than usual in her vexation. "But this is not my fight. It is not even a fight. It is a hypothetical pretend!"

Usually when you had a chance to pick between fight or flight, you had a bit more Intel to work with than a madman with no sense.
