Ethics office hours

Tara's in her office bright and early for office hours although once Spider Jerusalem gets back to her with an appointment time she's closing up shop.

After trying to find Vala without much success and ending up talking to Kawalsky, Cameron is reminded that he needs to go talk to Tara about the assignment. He drops by her office and knocks on the door.

"Cameron!" Tara smiles warmly. "Come in."

Cameron manages a small smile, but between his cold and his girlfriend going missing he's not in the best of moods. He enters the room and remains hovering behind the chairs. "I er... you told me to think about the assignment during the weekend before making my final decision."

"I did," Tara nods. "Have you decided?"

Cameron nods, "I'd prefer to just drop the assignment. As much as I hate to get no mark for this, there is nothing more that I can add which hasn't already been said in the class."

"Alright," Tara nods again. "If you want to put in writing what you said in class I can give you partial credit. If you'd rather just drop the whole thing, that's okay too. You'll be excused from the first hour next week's class, as that'll be processing the assignment."

Cameron sighed in relief and did smile now. "I think I'd feel better just dropping the whole topic entirely. Thank you for understanding, ma'am."

"You're very welcome, Cameron." She cocks her head, and smiles a little. "And Cameron? You're always allowed to say no. To me, to an assignment, to a question - it doesn't matter. No means no, and it's your choice."

"It's that free will thing?" Cameron grins slightly, although he very much doubt that a teacher like Drusilla will listen to his no. Actually, he's pretty much sure she won't.

"Yep," Tara replies, matching Cameron's grin. "Nothing more sacred. And what sort of an ethics teacher would I be if I punished you - in any way - for drawing your boundary?" Her eyes are soft, as she says, "for what it's worth, I'm proud of you."

He blushes and looks down at his feet, "thank you, ma'am."

Thinking of something, Tara stops him before he goes. "Cameron, I really don't feel right giving you a non-participation mark. It doesn't feel like I'm respecting your ethical boundary, and that's really important. How about this for a plan: over the next few weeks, as we move through topics in class, you pick one you'd like to explore in more detail, and we'll sit down and work out an extra-credit (or, um, replacement credit) project. Okay?"

Logan knocks on the door. "Hey, uh, My Lady. Can I talk to you?"

"Sure, Logan," Tara replies easily. "Is this in Master role, or out of it?"

Cameron considers it and smiles, "I'd like that. Thank you."

Tara smiles back, and pulls out her notebook to pen a reminder in Cameron's section. "Let me know. And I'll see you on Friday - 9am."

"Yes, ma'am. Have a nice day," Cameron nods once more and then leaves, trying to come up with places where Vala might be.

{CJ walks in without knocking} Tara, we need to talk. I have some concerns about your Ethiics assignment...but I'm sure you have good reasons. Do you have time?

Janet walks in. "Do you have a few moments, Professor Maclay?" she asks.

Quinn knocks. "Hey! Got a minute?"

"Of course, Janet," Tara replies. "I'm glad you came by."

"Sure, Quinn. Come on in."

Quinn comes in and takes a seat. "I was sleeping off a headache on Friday and my eyes were all puffy and I could not be seen in public like that, so I missed class, and my mun has developed a phobia of the the post that exploded while she was at work that day so I'm wondering what I need to do to catch up so my mom won't kill me when she sees me."

"It might be best if you come to the class this afternoon, to catch up. We'll spend much of the time discussing the assignment - you're partnered with Bridge Carson. Can you make it to the Monday class?"
