Adventure Games, Monday, Period 3

This week, Ziva had asked the students to meet her in the Danger Shop. As much as she would have loved for them to actually be outside, the temperature was too hot, even for Ziva, and today's task might have been more difficult if the students were passing out and sweating up a storm. So, she set up a much milder day in an area much like Fandom's park. The big difference? That would be the climbing wall.

"Good morning," she said. "Hopefully, none of you are afraid of heights, because today, we are going to test your climbing skills. Your goal is simple - climb to the top of the wall as quickly as you can. To keep from hurting yourselves if you slip and fall, you will all be wearing harnesses attached to me, so that I may spot you when you climb - and before you insist that you do not need such a thing, I am going to insist that you put it on anyway." Silly crazy-skilled students. Ziva showed them how to put on their harnesses, and then had them line up. "Who would like to go first?"

Hey, Alex had climbed up on a roof this weekend so he figured this wouldn't be difficult at all. He got into his harness and waited his turn.

Alexander, for his part, just looked incredibly confused about the harness, even with the demonstration of how to put it on. It wasn't that he didn't understand the mechanics of it; it was simply the need for it that baffled him. Such a device seemed...excessive to climbing.

And this was well before he'd even ever heard of the Cliffs of Knowledge. Then, he might have a different opinion of harnesses.

The Danger Shop as usual provided Robin with something his size, which he managed to put on without much difficulty.

Tahiri still thought the harnesses were a pain, but she got the concept of safety equipment and geared up with a minimum of complaint.

Being a bit subdued about the weekend, still, helped with that.

The harnesses were a nice touch. Rinoa was trying not to seem nervous.

"You look... nervous," Squall mentioned. It was an impressively astute observation, for him. "Why? You're good at climbing."

"It's not the climbing," she said. "It's more the ground falling away while I'm hanging on to the side of Garden."

This wasn't Garden, and she had a harness.

It had still been terrifying, holding onto the school-that-was-now-an-airship with her bare hands.

"You held on for a while, though, without a problem," Squall pointed out. "...Sorry I didn't get there sooner."

"You were sort of in charge of the whole battle," she smiled. "I was surprised you had time to come at all."

She didn't think he would have let her die. She just figured he would have sent someone else.

"I tried telling people that, but everybody insisted that I had to be the one to save you personally," Squall grumbled. "I trusted the job to Zell, and he failed at it. That's what I get for trusting people."

Alex wasn't going to ask for help (of course not) but he did have a little more difficulty than originally thought with the wall. It was a little different than a roof.

He made it though and, as he climbed, he got progressively quicker and more confident with himself.

Alexander had far too much experience climbing up and down rocks and sheer cliffs and mountains, so this class today was easy.

Easy if you ignored the chaffing from those harnesses. Zounds! He still failed to see how it was any improvement.

Again, the Danger Shop provided. Without making it easier per se than it was for the others, the hand and foot holds were moved closer together so he could reach them.
