Library, Tuesday!

It was Rinoa's first shift at the library because the mun got sick last week and she was so excited about it. She forgot to ask what you were supposed to bring. You weren't supposed to bring anything to the library, were you? If you were working there and not just hiding out in the stacks for a few hours?

Rinoa was going to sit behind the circulation desk and try to look busy and efficient. This might last all of ten minutes before she tore off in search of new books.

Henry had actually read the paperwork he got on new aides by now, so he was not totally unprepared to meet the brunette behind the counter.

"Rinoa?" he greeted with a smile. "Am I saying that right? I'm Henry, the librarian. Are you finding everything okay?"

"You are," Rinoa said, perking up and offering a hand. Hoping she had looked sufficiently busy a moment beforehand, when he had come in. "It's nice to meet you! I think I found everything? But if anyone asks me where certain books are, I'm going to have to go hunting with them."

"That'll happen even once you know how we're oriented," Henry said. "Sometimes the books go walkabout. But here, let me show you the library map..."

He found one and started walking Rinoa through the Library of Congress system. "Did that make any sense?"

"It does," she said, nodding. "So all the stacks are in this order, around like this?"

She tilted her head at the system again. "Why are E and F both American history? Shouldn't that just be one big E?"

"Good question," Henry said. "E is pretty much all the U.S, F is cities within the U.S. and foreign colonizations of the Americas. We got egotistic and used up all the E codes just on this country."

"I can see why," she laughed. "All the maps of this place make it look huge. Besides, if you're creating a system, you can totally use up an extra letter or two for your own country. Hometown pride."

"Damn straight," Henry laughed. "I'm guessing you're from someplace smaller."

"Galbadia," Rinoa said. "It's not tiny, but it's nowhere near this big. It keeps trying to gobble up other countries to fix that."

Like Timber, and Dollet, and whatever else was handy.

"Like Rome," Henry observed. "It's interesting how small countries seem to want to create empires in every world."

"Dollet used to be an empire, itself," Rinoa said. "And now Galbadia's the one trying to take over it, instead of vice versa. It feels like everyone's playing the same few hands of poker, just with some cards shuffled around."
