Applied Dadaism, Tuesday, period 2

Artie was seated on thin air at a folding card table when the students arrived. Once they all were gathered, he gestured for them to sit down at any of the tables set up (which thankfully, had plenty of chairs and chair-like objects to choose from).

"Welcome back, my little viikings! It is another pipe day for some fun and games!"

Each table held a fairly impressive pile of cards. Artie picked up a handful from his. "Today, we will play poker! But not just any poker, oh no. Any hand can win, as long as you can tell us why. Remember to use your brains! Do you have a four of diamonds? Well, maybe those diamonds are the source of the King's secret weakness! It's up to you!

"Homework!" Artie adopted a very goofy looking stern look, then brightened back up. "Pick one day this week. You will spend that day being silly, in everything you do. Perhaps spend the whole day speaking through a sock puppet. Perhaps challenge a cabbage to a foot race. Make people ask you what you are doing! Make them think you are weird. Don't tell them; just let them wonder! Next week, you will tell us about your day of silliness!"

[ooc: And away we go!]

It was such a shame that Ariel didn't have any way to know what a vascectomy was, because that would be an easy way to take out three dudes in a heartbeat.

So she just laid down the the queen and the mermaid with a look of superiority, because everyone knew that girls were at least twices as good as any dude.

Peter raised a finger, ready to make a terrible joke about two girls and three dudes, but then thought better of it.

"Best two out of three?" he said, deciding that having Ariel happy was definitely better than winning in this scenario.

Smart man, on both accounts.

Ariel's head bobbed in a nod, and it still hadn't quite finished bobbing yet by the time she was reaching for a new set of cards.

Peter grabbed his new hand, and laughed a little as his luck. Sadly for him, his p-p-p-pokerface was quite readable. But then, he was just having fun with this.

The four of diamonds, an autographed trading card of Diamond Dallas Page, A membership card for the Lou Diamond Phillips fan club, an engagement announcement card with a big diamond ring on the front, and the Hierophant card from a set of Dustin Diamond tarot cards.

He thought he might just have this one.

Perhaps. Ariel's handful of cards, of which there were only five this time, involved a notecard taken by some college student detailing how to perform open heart surgery, a seven of hearts, a Jason Hart basketball card, a tracks listing card from a Corey Hart cassette, and recipe card for artichoke heart dip.

Hmmm. Ariel looked thoughtful again and tentatively put a couple more business cards in. This could be interesting. Peter seemed to think he had a pretty good hand...

"Ooooh," Peter said, but was confident. He tossed in his last two IDs.

"I call," he said. "Let's see your cards."

And with that, Ariel laid down all her hearts (and harts), looking a little smug.

Peter set down all his diamonds and was equally smug.

"Now, I think technically diamonds are the easiest way to win over a heart," he tried to argue, all rascally.

Ariel's fingers tapped a little caddence in front of her, as she considered this claim and narrowed her eyes at Peter a little.

Dang it, that was a really good point. So she drew in a hesitant breath, let it out in a sigh, and rolled her eyes in consent. There was still one more tie breaker, anyway.

"I think that leaves a last hand," Peter said. "And I'm already all-in with the IDs, so if I have to raise, I hope there's something else I can be that'd be okay with you."

Ariel nodded amicably, discarding her old cards and already reaching for some more while throwing a business card in for an ante.

Peter grabbed a new hand of cards and this time played his poker well. You seem, he retained a smile despite drawing a Plains card for some Collectible Card Game, a Hair Club for Men Membership card, the Seven of Cups (from the Dustin Diamond Tarot Set again), an ID card for a Bill Lumbergh, and the two of clubs.

He was having trouble even thinking of a way to make that a real hand.

He knocked on the table, passing on raising.

Hmmm. Ariel looked over her cards, which had a lovely, hope-inspiring Death tarot card, a slip of paper with I.C. Wiener and an address written on it, a joker card, an Old Maid, and an insurance card for a 1978 Volkwagen bug.

She had no idea what the knocking had meant, so she knocked, too, only twice.

Peter laid out his cards with a sigh.

"Bill high," he said, shrugging. He had a smile on his face, though. It was just playing that was the fun.

Ariel, too, laid out her cards.

She did, however, then edge out Death, the joker, and the old maid.

She didn't know what they might mean, but, come on. There had to be a connection there that could get her something.

"I think you win," Peter conceded. "So what was my final ante, anyway?"

Ariel took a second to regard the pile of cards.

And then took another second to ask herself what she was thinking because, oh, gosh, that was almost too easy of a set-up.

She smiled, and her eyes drifted back toward Peter, perfectly timed for her big wide baby blues to settle on him as the smile reached the height of its sweetness. She bit her lip and rolled her eyes coyly to the side a little, as if to suggest that she needed to think about it for just a minute, because it would clearly have to be something good...

She had to stop trying too hard, after all...

"Hey now," Peter said, curious. "Are you playing coy with me?"

Re: Go fish! Or, you know, poker. FISH FOR POKER.

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
To that, Ariel could only giggle a little, shaking her head. Coy? Why would she be playing coy with a cute boy who owed her something, even if only over a silly game of cards? She'd never.

Which is why the coy drifted away, and Ariel folded her arms in front of her, leaning forward, with her eyes set for Peter''s. Eyes that said that she knew what his ante was. Did he think he could afford it?

"You better lay it on me," Peter said, brushing his mouth with the thumb of his right hand. "My curiosity is killing me."

Re: Go fish! Or, you know, poker. FISH FOR POKER.

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Lay it on him? If he insisted! Since she couldn't at all take the risk of that thumb getting in the way, Ariel reached out to gently take that hand of Peter's in her own wonderfully not-C-shaped hand, grinning as she leaned forward, closing her eyes, to do precisely that.

Peter was suddenly very acutely aware of what she intended. Which is when he leaned forward in his chair... which very certainly wasn't intended to hold his weight in such a manner. It spat out from under him, ending with Peter hitting the ground, very narrowly managing to not crack his face on the table.

"...ow."
