The Danger Room has been programmed to resemble the press briefing room at the White House. On each chair is the student's name on an etched brass plaque. Make sure you only sit in the chair with your name on it.

At the ends of each rows are thick folders rubber banded to a large stack of books. Behind the lectern is a white pull down screen covering the seal of the United States of America.

CJ stands at the lectern, wearing her glasses. She looks up as the students enter the room and checks their name off the list.

Honor System, Gang. If YOU know you have detention, please serve it. Not all the teachers submitted information, or else there were late additions. Thanks.

Ok. It's Saturday. It's detention. I'm supposed to mention about your wicked, wicked ways...yeah, not going to do that. Work harder. Quit screwing around. In some misguided attempt to keep you all sane and alive I signed up for this gig, so let's make the best of a bad situation, and make CJ happy, ok? [She smiles]

All right gang, this is going to be as painless or as painful as you choose for it to be. I want you in groups of not more than four. You each have a different stack of information. These are reports that are sent to the government so we can decide what to give money to. We had an intern, Winnie, and she's read them all and briefed me on them.

Your detention, since most of you are here for not doing your homework, is to consolidate the information, come up with a coherant presentation, and then get up here and present your findings to the rest of us. If you do it well, single moms and garbagemen get to keep on making a living. If not, you damage the environment, poison the masses, and generally create hell on Earth and destroy our noble Democracy as we know it.

But first, we're going to watch a couple films to help orient you to politics as I know and love them.

[Walks to the back, flips off the lights, and starts an old fashioned reel projector. Footage of the Kennedy-Nixon debates flashes on the screen at the front of the room and the lights dim so they can watch.]

I will post sub threads for different detention activities through the day.

"I should know that." It explained the NID, didn't it?

"It was awesome, back in the day." Jack coughed. "Or so I heard. I'm not sure what this program (http://www.themotherroad.com/localnews/local.html) is for, though."

"I know we're supposed to support the cause, or whatever, but I feel like money could be better spent repairing and upgrading highways and roadways that see a lot of traffic. Not to memorialise some road that's supposed to be legendary or something. Pretty much seems a waste of money, and time."

Jack really doesn't have that much of an opinion on it. For crying out loud, he used to work on a program that spent $7.2 billion a year to get the lights on. This is peanuts, by comparison, but it's not something he can focus on.

"So. Presentation. What's Cregg expecting?"

"Pretty much no clue. Supposed to support Route 66, I guess. Justify spending government money to fancy up a road."

"Get your kicks, give us cash, travel back," Jack sings under his breath. He is horrendously off-key.

"Okay. Focus on the conditions of travel. Route 66, an American legend. People drive it just to drive to. So they can say they've been on Route 66. I guess that's worth something."

"Is it worth a souvenir? A T-shirt stand to generate money for it?" Jack balances the chair on two legs, then lets it slam back down. "Or maybe a fundraiser. Rock for Route 66?"

"There's an idea. That could be our presentation. Rock for Route 66. I'd lay odds some of the great American musicians would come out and support it."

Jack looks satisfied. Ha. Who says he can't do the political stuff? See? He's very political!

"Cool. Let's make a list, plan it, then have a paper airplane contest 'til Professor Cregg stops us."

"Works for me." Oz scribbles down the plan. Rock for Route 66. Hit up American artists to come out for the cause. Make promotional T-shirts to sell for additional cash.

Use the profits to beautify the road and promote travel on it. Seems like a done deal to him.

He's pretty good at making paper airplanes too.

Jack suggests a few, convinced they can get the Boss and Dylan to come out for it, picks out the Grand Canyon for a concert site, then settles in with the F-16 making.

Oz is a man of few words, but excellent aircraft origami skills.

Oz adds Jon Bon Jovi to the list, because ~~his mun is a fan and knows~~ he's done the Route 66 thing.

And Jack adds Shakira, because she's hot. Not that he'd admit that to Carter.
