DETENTION Saturday

ETA: Mun jst got horrible news and will be AFK for a bit. I'm sure you can tell this is a pretty loose detention. Just don't blow anything up. I'll be back later to release you. I'm back. Play this funny for me, ok? I need cheered up.

The Danger Room has been programmed to resemble the press briefing room at the White House. On each chair is the student's name on an etched brass plaque. Make sure you only sit in the chair with your name on it.

At the ends of each rows are thick folders rubber banded to a large stack of books. Behind the lectern is a white pull down screen covering the seal of the United States of America.

CJ stands at the lectern, wearing her glasses. She looks up as the students enter the room and checks their name off the list.

Honor System, Gang. If YOU know you have detention, please serve it. Not all the teachers submitted information, or else there were late additions. Thanks.

Ok. It's Saturday. It's detention. I'm supposed to mention about your wicked, wicked ways...yeah, not going to do that. Work harder. Quit screwing around. In some misguided attempt to keep you all sane and alive I signed up for this gig, so let's make the best of a bad situation, and make CJ happy, ok? [She smiles]

All right gang, this is going to be as painless or as painful as you choose for it to be. I want you in groups of not more than four. You each have a different stack of information. These are reports that are sent to the government so we can decide what to give money to. We had an intern, Winnie, and she's read them all and briefed me on them.

Your detention, since most of you are here for not doing your homework, is to consolidate the information, come up with a coherant presentation, and then get up here and present your findings to the rest of us. If you do it well, single moms and garbagemen get to keep on making a living. If not, you damage the environment, poison the masses, and generally create hell on Earth and destroy our noble Democracy as we know it.

But first, we're going to watch a couple films to help orient you to politics as I know and love them.

[Walks to the back, flips off the lights, and starts an old fashioned reel projector. Footage of the Kennedy-Nixon debates flashes on the screen at the front of the room and the lights dim so they can watch.]

I will post sub threads for different detention activities through the day.

"Morning, Bel. You guys aren't doing the slave thing in class, right? I don't want to get Pheebs in trouble by talking to her." She nodded to Buffy. "We're not yet. So you guys can talk to her. If you don't scare her, tease her or humiliate her, because we are going to do this assignment and that makes her mine to protect. Understood?"

"We're not," Belthazor said, "but even if we were, I haven't forbidden her to speak to her friends. That would make her unhappy. I'll save that for a punishment." He grinned, then grunted as Phoebe reached over and punched him in the side. Understood. I know how you feel about what's yours.

"Hey Pheebs." Beka grinned. "How's Master Emo treating you? Nicely I hope." She shot a wicked smirk at Bel, but it contained a hint of the usual threat-promise to stop him if he hurt her. Difference between mine and mine to protect. I don't own her. But I will own anyone who hurts her. Or Phoebe. Or you.

"My Beloved Lord is treating me well," Phoebe responded, smiling at Belthazor, a teasing glint in her eyes. Belthazor gave Beka a dirty look at the "emo" comment. Or me, huh? What's so special about me?

"Damn. That's hot. About those Halloween costumes... Your Beloved Lord, huh?" Beka gave Phoebe a knowing smirk before turning to Bel.

"What, you think I'm going to call you 'My Beloved Lord'? Don't say yes unless you've got fireballs in hand to back it up." Yeah, you. *shrug* Sometimes people click.

"Her idea," Belthazor said, but he was grinning. "I kinda like it. Has a nice sound to it." I do have fireballs to back it up and you know it. Still going to feel that way if the Source of All Evil comes after my ass?

"Mmm-hmm." Beka grinned back and shot Phoebe an amused look, complete with highly arched eyebrow. "Don't get used to it." You are such a tease. And, simply put: Yes.

"Seriously?" Veronica looks nervously in CJ's direction. "We won't get in trouble for talking now, will we?"

"Nah. CJ's a sweetheart. She can be tough, real tough. But she's fair." Beka tossed a glance and a smile CJ's way. "Besides, right now she's all mushy over the Doctor and bunny!Logan. We're safe. Bel asked."

Beka's mention of Bel made Veronica look toward where he and Phoebe were seated together, which reminded her of the strange phone call she had received last night.

"Hey, can I ask you something?" she asks Beka in a low tone.

Beka tracked Veronica's gaze to Bel and Phoebe. She nodded. "As long as it doesn't invade their privacy, I'll answer."

Veronica's voice drops even lower.

"You know about Phoebe being stalked, right?" After Beka nods, she continues, "I got a weird phone call last night from someone saying they know who's doing it. The thing is, I don't know if she's on the up and up and I don't know her."

She glances at Phoebe and Bel again.

"And I don't want to say anything to Phoebe until I check it out."

Beka scooted a little closer so she could keep her voice low and unheard amidst the chatter.

"Yeah, Bel asked me to watch out for her. Truth, I'm as worried about him from the things he said. Definitely smart not to mention it until you know." Beka's tone clearly demonstrated her approval. "If I know the person, I'll tell you whatever I know. I want this stopped."

Veronica glances around the room to ensure no one is paying attention to them.

"She said her name was Illyana," she tells Beka, stumbling the pronunciation probably.

Beka sat back, doing her best to keep surprise off her face and out of her voice. "Yana?"

She shut down emotionally and considered what she knew. Illyana's recent behavior, all the guilt, all the questions about doing bad things...maybe she did know. Maybe she felt guilty for not telling. She had to talk to Yana.

"Yeah. Illyana. Magik. She's my roommate. If Illyana says she knows who did it, she probably does. She's a high up sort of person in magical hierarchies, I don't know exactly what."

Beka shook her head. "As far as I know, they don't. She might know Bel. Scratch that. She probably does know Bel. Something to do with Limbo. She's kind of close-mouthed about her powers unless I ask, and I haven't had reason to ask about that. Yet.."

Veronica frowns.

"Hmm, so maybe it's someone that is trying to get at Bel by threatening Phoebe and Illyana knows the person too?"

"Bel said the notes mentioned a 'him'. That they were trying to convince Phoebe by threatening someone. I assumed it was Bel. Maybe they're actually trying to get at Bel and just using Phoebe as the conduit?" Beka screwed up her mouth. "That doesn't make a lot of sense. But why not say who 'he' is, if they mean to harm Phoebe?"

Veronica shrugs.

"I don't know. That's what I can't figure out. Everyone who may have had the slightest motive has been cleared. Phoebe's just so sweet."

Beka nodded. "I don't think it's really about Phoebe. I can't see how it could be." She lowered her voice. "Belthazor has a lot of enemies..."
