Adventure Games, Monday, Period 3

Ziva, like many of the other teachers it seemed, had decided that the weather was nice enough to hold class outside by the main campfire.

"Good afternoon," she said, taking a look around at everyone. "My name is Ms. David, and this is Adventure Games. Hopefully, you are all in the right place. If not, you are welcome to stay anyway. My goal is for this to be a very summer camp-appropriate workshop. We are going to be active and have some fun and not do anything that requires too much thinking. I hope that is all right with you all." She'd met some nerdy students, it was possible the answer to that was no.

"Today, we are going to do two things. First, I would like everyone to introduce themselves so that I can learn all of your names. Then you are going to pick partners, and we are going to do trust falls. Many of the activities we will be doing will involve working together. You must learn to trust one another if any of you are going to succeed."

"Alex Karev and I'm a senior," he said, way too used to these by now. "One more year and then I get released out into the real world. Lock up your daughters, mothers."

"You are making yourself sound very trustworthy," Ziva teased. "I am glad my relatives are in another country."

"Err."

This being Alexander's first introduction in a class ever, he was a little nervous, but he was determined not to muck it up too badly.

"My name is Gwy--" In his nervousness, he almost slipped. He stopped. Shook his head. "I'm sorry. I've never really been in a lesson like this before, so I'm a little nervous. I'm Prince Alexander of Daventry, and I believe I have been placed in the Junior class."

"Do not be nervous. There is no wrong answer to this part," Ziva assured him. "And I believe you will find many of the classes this summer to be easy. We try to take it easy on the students. But welcome, it is good to have you."

"Hi!" Robin said cheerfully. "My name's Robin, and I'm a senior!" That felt so weird to say.

"Hello Robin," Ziva said. Hurray for enthusiastic students, but wow, she still hadn't been here long enough that a frog didn't make her do a bit of a double take. "It is good to have you here."

Squall folded his arms.

(I hate talking to new people.)

"Squall Leonhart," he grunted. "Junior."

And that was all he was going to say.

"Thank you Squall, and welcome," Ziva said, leaving it at that as well. A student who wasn't eager to be chatty wasn't a bad thing at all.

"Tahiri Veila, senior," she answered, glancing down at the kitten purring around her feet with a grin. "That's Ben, Ben Skywalker, who seems to have been struck with an unfortunate bout of kittenhood this week and isn't normally in this class."

Ziva covered her mouth with her hand to try to stifle her laughter. "I hope he will go back to his normal self soon," she said sympathetically. "Thank you, Tahiri."

"My name's Rinoa Heartilly," she said brightly. "I'm going to be a junior when classes start in the fall. I've only been here a few weeks but it's a lot of fun."

"Ah, welcome!" Ziva said. "I have been here for about a year, and I must say, it is still rather fun. That is why I have not moved on yet, I believe."

"Blysse Norwood, of House Kestrel," Firekeeper dutifully rattled off her adopted name. "And he," she nodded to the large wolf by her side, "is Blind Seer. We is now... junior, I think, is the word?" Yes, as far as she was concerned Blind Seer was a student in the class.

"Welcome to both of you," Ziva said. If Blysse wanted Blind Seer to count, she didn't mind that at all. "Junior year is a fun year, if I remember correctly."

Partner up and trust that your partner will catch you. Assuming they like you and/or don't want to get glared at by Ziva.

Alex didn't trust easily and he sure as hell wasn't going to completely trust someone to catch him but he'd go with it and just promise himself he'd pop his potential partner if they dropped him.

While Alexander had no doubt in his ability to catch another person, he would feel rather bad making someone try to catch him, so turning to the similarly built and similarly named fellow seemed a natural choice.

"Shall we partner up?" he offered. "It looks as though we'd pair up well, and the catching wouldn't be too much of a strain for either of us."

"As long as you don't drop me, man," Alex said, giving Alexander a nod. "You go by Alexander, right? I'm Alexander too but I go by Alex. So we don't get ourselves confused."

Yes, avoiding any further name confusion would be very good for Alexander. He smiled a bit. "That is very fortunate. It's a good name, shortened or not; I've grown fond of it."

Even if it still seemed...more like a cloak than a name.

"I've never done anything like this before, but I'm fairly good at catching. Who shall go first?"

"You can catch me," he said but he still sounded wary. "If my ass ends up on the floor, I'll be pissed though. Just so we're clear."

...

"We're clear," Alexander said, nodding. The last thing he'd want to do is start up trouble on his first day of lessons. Especially not with someone who could likely give him a good run for his money.

So he let out a breath, moved behind Alex ~~in a non-sexual way~~, and got ready. "Okay. Should we count it off?"

"Sure. On three, I'll fall back," Alex decided, nodding and shaking out his arms. "Count it down."

"Three, two..."

Now, Alexander thought, would be a really terrible time to get a shoulder cramp.

"One!"

A really terrible time so Alex hoped that didn't happen because he did actually let himself fall backwards.

And, though not without a slight grunt, Alexander managed to catch him.

"Ha! Success!"

Once he was certain that he wasn't going to end up on his ass, Alex smiled and clambered back to his feet.

"Nice job," he allowed, nodding. "Always good to know I wasn't going to get dropped. You ready to do yours now?"

"I suppose so," said Alexander, whose own trust issues usually didn't present themselves until the moment of, such as now. But he'd caught Alex, so Alex had no reason to not catch Alexander. It was reasonable, logical, and just the right thing to do...

...which was why it had every reason to fail, but, on the same token, you never knew until you did something. So Alexander dutifully turned around, reminded himself that, so far, everyone here had been very kind and good, and closed his eyes.

"Count it down?"

"Yep. Three, two..." Lucky for Alexander, Alex had no intention of dropping him. He wasn't in a bad mood and he wasn't looking to just be a jerk so he was safe today.

"One," he said and got ready to catch the other boy.

Robin looked around for a partner.
