Home Ec is Outrageous!; Monday, Period Five [ 07/05 ].

And so, then next chapter of Aquaman's Adventures in High School Education was about to begin! While the topics were the same, it was a new batch of curious students ready to learn, and he hoped that he could still throw in a few surprises as they did. As the students came into the home ec classroom, they would find on their tables a box of various supplies, some crayons and markers and paints, scissors and hot glue guns. And glitter, of course! One had to have glitter!

The large man in the tight superhero outfit positively beamed from the head of the classroom as the students got settled, waiting for the precise minute for class to begin. Once it came, he started, bursting with professorial pride, while managing to spout of last semester's greeting almost verbatum. It had been a good one, and sometimes there was no shame in keeping the good speeches. "Hello, intrepid young knowledge seekers! I trust your first day of world-expanding workshops have been going swimmingly so far, and allow me to welcome you to the home ec classroom. Here, we will join forces together to explore the outrageous wonders of the home economics world! My name is Aquaman, and you may be wondering what a well-known superhero and king of the undersea realm might be doing here teaching home economics in a summer workshop! Well, let me tell you!"

He took a moment to turn around, picking up a marker for the dry erase board, and he wrote out across it a phrase. The marker squeaked, still, with each careful stroke, a skill carried over from last semester. Aquaman still didn't seem to notice, either. He finished with a very deliberate and dramatic dot on the bottom of his exclamation point and backed away.

"A man (or woman)'s home is his castle, and if he (or she) cannot maintain his (or her) own castle, how can he (or she) be expected to maintain his kingdom?" he read off importantly.

He stood there admiring it for a moment, never getting tired of such sage advice, before turning back around to the class. "You see, just like crime fighting, I believe that maintaing home and hearth to be a hands-on job! It builds character! If that means I'm to mend my own socks, well, then, mend them I shall!"

No, Aquaman didn't really ever wear socks. That was beside the point.

"So, my intrepid individuals, these next few weeks, we shall embark on the great journey of learning how to better take care of the ecomonics of home! Because home is where the heart is! On your desks, you will find a syllabus, so you know precisely what to look forward to, and please let me know if you have any questions at all. Today's adventure?"

Again, he turned to the board. Again, the marker squeaked with every careful move.

"Introductions & Color Scheme!"

"Introductions!" he said. "And color scheme! It is important for superheroes and homes alike to have a certain color scheme to ground them and make them noteable! As you can see, I am quite fond of orange and green, myself. They are bold and outrageous, just like me! Green is also the color of life and vitality, and of nature, which gives us life...and vitality. And orange, well, orange is for vitality, too, and it helps inspire creativity and it's really, really noticeable. Plus? I like it a lot!"

"So I'd like you all to take a few minutes and think about what colors you would like to choose to represent you! Think well, but think quick! Then, we will take turns going around the room; introduce yourself, telling us who you are, a little about where you are from, why you've decided to take Home Ec, and then tell us what your colors are and why! Then, we will spend the rest of the class using those colors to design a room! It can be any kind of room! Bedroom, living room, bath room...it doesn't matter, as long as you use your colors as the central theme for them. You can use whatever you like to design them; everything you need should be there at your desks. If you're feeling particularly bold and brave, there are shoeboxes provided so you can put your design into a really cool diorama!"

"So, if there aren't any questions, five minutes! And then we'll talk color!"

Have your color scheme picked out? Good! Because it's time to go around the room, tell us a little about yourselves and why you chose the colors you did.

"I'm Cara. I'm not sure why I'm in this class." She could have sworn she picked something with less domesticity and more violence. "My colours are red and...darker red." Look, she already had a colour scheme and that was it.

"So, you're fond of red, Cara?" asked Aquaman. Call it a hunch.

No one had ever actually asked her that before. "It doesn't matter if I'm fond of it or not, it's the colour Mord'Sith wear." She supposed that it was better than some of the alternatives though. "It also hides the blood stains until you have a chance to clean your leathers, so it's practical too."

"That is quite practical," Aquaman agreed, easily enough, because he did roll with Batman, and Batman certainly had his moments like that. "But do you know the reason why they wear red, other than its maintenience implications? And, what if you didn't have to wear them? Would you still choose red?"

"I'm told the sight is quite intimidating to our enemies."

"I don't have to wear them." That had been a truly fun conversation with Richard. Not the least bit awkward, either. "I earnt the right to wear these."

Cara did have a point about the intimidation factor. At least, it was certainly a bit more intimidating that bright orange, although bright orange did make him much safer from hunters and vehicles should he go adventuring at night.

"Ahhh, so it's an honor and a privledge to be donned as such."

Then, we will take turns going around the room; introduce yourself, telling us who you are, a little about where you are from, why you've decided to take Home Ec, and then tell us what your colors are and why! Then, we will spend the rest of the class using those colors to design a room!

Hinata cringed a little, when it came her turn to talk. Oh introductions, never her favourite thing.

"I am Hinata," she said, with a little bob of her head. "I am sixteen and I... took this class," because of a paperwork error, "because it sounded interesting and useful."

In a vague sort of way, that wasn't even a lie. Hinata was pleased with that as she wouldn't have wanted to hurt the professor's feelings by saying that it was in error she was here.

"My colours are blue, white, and y-yellow," Hinata said, glancing down at her jacket (which was white) and her pants (which were blue). Mmm colour coding. "I like them because they remind me of the sky."

"That's wonderful, Hinata!" said Aquaman, clearly pleased with her reasoning. "My colors remind me occasionally of the sea, myself, and I'm quite fond of the sea! Welcome to the class! I hope it's as interesting and useful as it sounds!"

"I'm Gunn," he began still shaking his head at this whole thing, "And my color scheme is black and I have no effin' clue why I'm here."

Luckily, Aquaman could accept black as a color scheme. Batman, and everything.

What he could not accept were swear words, even abbreviated ones. "I'm sure," he chided gently, "we could find more proper ways to voice our confusion, Gunn, than with crude language! Fortunately, I have an answer to that confusing conundrum. You are here to learn, as are your peers, and it will be a grand adventure of knowledge!"

"Right," Gunn said rolling his eyes and crossing his arms. "No offense, man, but I have have a different definition of 'cleaning house.' If you know what I mean."

There was...a bit of a pause. Perhaps more than a bit.

"Would it be appropriate to share with the whole class?" Aquaman wondered.

"It would be me taking care of the bad guys and keeping my neighborhood safe," Gunn said with a bit of a smirk. "What'd you think I meant by that?"

"I didn't know!" said Aquaman. "That's why I asked. It never hurts to ask, but that is a definition of cleaning house I can approve of! It is, unfortunately, not the definition that will be put to effect in this classroom, but, by Neptune's beard, it is one subject near and dear to me!"

"I'm Alex Russo," she began. "I'll be a senior in the fall and I decided to take this class because it sounded interesting." Hey, it was an honest answer. "As for my color scheme? I tend to lean towards purple and white, sometime light blue if I'm feeling adventurous."

"I can always support feeling adventurous!" said Aquaman approvingly. "Those are excellent colors, Alex! Very sleek, and white is usually a nice, unexpected choice! Very bold! Welcome to the class! I'm sure you'll find it interesting, indeed!"

"I'm Delirium!" Oh, Del was so happy at the moment, probably getting some of Aquaman's own special track of thought.

"Can't I just use every color?" Said with her hair furiously going through the whole spectrum.

"Of course you can!" Aquaman, so pleased to see such an energetic young student, said. "It can be difficult to choose just one, I know, but I can tell, you might be one who can handle all of them just fine." That, with an encouraging wink thrown in.

"Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!"

And there was jumping around involved. She was going to make such a delicious mess...

...that was pretty enthusiastic. Aquaman chuckled, good naturedly, but held up a hand that made a bit of a settle-down gesture.

"Now, now," he said, "I know it can be thrilling, but please remember we are still in a classroom setting, Delirium. I just hope you can save all that energy for when we get to cleaning!"

She settled down. A little. Cleaning? Oh well, she could deal with that.

A firm nod communicated of this to Aquaman. "I'll clean my mess." She almost added Sir there, but hey, maybe later.

Jono heaved the mental equivalent of a sigh before he introduced himself.

//Jonothon,// he reported, putting a hand up in case anyone absolutely needed to know where the echoing telepathic voice was coming from. //And do I have to choose a unique colour scheme? Somebody already took mine.//

Curse you, Gunn, for being faster on the draw.

"My name is Medusalith Amaquelin," Medusa said. "You may call me Medusa. I am from Germany." Yes. Germany. Totally Germany. "I have no idea why I am in this class other than temporary insanity on my part. My color scheme is purple and..." quick, she needed a second color! "Black. Because they look good with my hair." Vain, yes, but also honest, and when you had as much hair as this girl, it was an important consideration.

"Welcome to the class, Medusa! And what a lot of hair it is!" Aquaman remarked, clearly a compliment. "Why, it's even more hair than my wife Mera's, and she's got quite a lot, too. Hopefully, it won't get in the way when we're doing more labor intesive activities!"
