Dating, Hooking Up and Sex, Class 7, Friday period 3

Dean was leaning against the desk at the front of the room as the class filed in. On the table behind him was an assortment of pies and drinks.

"So," he began, "today we're talking about the when Fandom weirdness can work for you. And when it does, it can give you some experiences you'll never forget.

"Like we discussed last week, Fandom weirdness can, more often than not, throw a monkey wrench -- or a yak brush -- into your social plans. But sometimes, it's just the opposite. Just to give you a couple of examples, every now and then around here you can wake up the opposite gender. And yeah, you're probably going to freak out when that happens the first time, but really, think of it as an opportunity to walk in another's shoes. You don't need to take it as far as I did -- I mean, how many guys can say they've had a lesbian threesome, when they were one of the particpants? -- but at the very least think about taking the new model out for a solo test drive. It's an experience that most people don't even get a chance at.

"The title of this class in the syllabus, it isn't as kinky as most of you probably think it is. I have a really hot car -- a 1967 impala. I love this car, she's my baby, the open road, me behind her wheel with some AC/DC blaring is my idea of a perfect afternoon. And thanks to Fandom weirdness, I know that she loves me back. See, last summer, there was a weekend where everything people really really loved became human. My hot car became a really hot girl. And yeah, we had sex, but even if we hadn't, it would've been an awesome weekend because I got talk to my baby and have her actually talk back.

"The point I'm trying to make here is that weirdness is going to happen when you're here. Take that for granted. And yeah, you're going to flail and freak out about it when it does, that's just the normal reaction. But... try to keep an open mind. Try to look at the things that happen as opportunities -- what can you get out of them that you'd never normally have a chance at experiencing? You do that and you'll find that the weirdness becomes less weird and more of an adventure. And in that way it's a lot like the whole sex-dating-hooking up thing."

Dean looked around at everybody. "So this is our last class. I'm not clueless -- I know there's been a lot of you who've been embarrassed at least part of the time. I hope that maybe you're a little less embarrassed now than you were first class. And whether you're having weekly orgies swinging from the chandelier or you're saving yourself until you feel ready, you should never, ever feel ashamed. Everyone's different and everyone is going to move at their own speed and have their own limits. Respect yours and everyone else's and you'll all do fine.

"I was hoping you'd do me a favour -- this is the first class I've actually taught all by myself and I'd like to find out how I did from the people who matter the most -- you guys. So I was hoping you'd each tell me first, one reason you're glad you took this class, something you learned, or changed your mind about or whatever. And also, one thing you didn't like, that you think I should change for next term."

Dean gestured at the pie and softdrinks. "And I'm not above bribery. To celebrate us all making it through, there's drinks and the best food in the world -- pie. Help yourself."

"Were you really a yak last week?"

If she hadn't been crazy at the time, she would have been boggling over that.

Sam blushed a little, and nodded. "You know about the animal stuff, right?" he asked, not sure how much she'd been told already. "The island likes to turn people into animals sometimes. It doesn't happen too often but...yeah, I got to be a yak for a few days."

Scully was going to just stare for a bit. Because she distinctly recalled the yak. And if she didn't think it was a pointless joke, she would've accused Dean and Sam of messing with them.

"Do you remember what it was like? Or was your brain a yak-brain too?"

"No, I remember everything. I could understand English and knew exactly what was going on. I was just, you know, stuck in the form of a yak," Sam said. "I think it might be different for people. I usually remember and I'm aware of what's going on."

The whole question of transformation made Scully uneasy, since, well. She was currently experiencing one. And had been for going on three months now.

"And it just spontaneously ends, at some point? You don't have to do anything... say anything. To make it happen?"

At this point, Scully would claim to believe in Djinn and fairies, if it would undo this.

"Pretty much. You don't have any control over when it happens or when you go back to normal," Sam said. He wondered for a moment if he should tell her about the naked part, and in the end, he decided not to. Some things were better left as a surprise.

Scully scowled, her displeasure clear. "Has anyone -- not, gone back to who they were? Just stayed an animal or tree or ... different person?"

"Not in all the years I've been here," Sam assured her. "That would be too mean for the island to do."

Scully's expression smoothed out, and she gave Sam a small smile. "Good to know." Maybe there was hope for her yet. "Are you going to be here during the next session?"

"No, I'm heading off to New York," Sam said. "Part of me really wants to stay, but I'm also ready to get started on the whole college thing."

"I'm sorry you won't be here," Scully said. "But glad you're going somewhere you want to be." Her mouth quirked sideways. "I appreciated seeing you in class every week. It made me feel less-- weird."
