Flight and Flying [Tuesday, June 22]

Anakin had handwavily asked the students to meet him on the beach, where they stood in front of his grandson Ben's shuttlecraft.

Yes, Ben was very spoiled.

"This is a Crix-class diplomatic courier shuttle," Anakin said, waving his hand at it. "It's equipped with long-range sensors, a top of the line navicomputer, more shields than strictly necessary, and if I know my family, goes a lot faster than it's advertised to in the brochure."

He grinned at the students. "And today you're going to get to fly it through the solar system. Get in."

Jupiter wasn't an issue. Who was going to run into a planet that large?

The asteroid belt, however, gave Leia a bad feeling for some reason.

Flying a ship? Totally better than careening aimlessly through space in an ice-bubble made from your own body's moisture.

Just saying.

Bobby was grinning like a dork as he maneuvered his way through the solar system.

Anemone was surveying the asteroid belt greedily when her turn came. "Can I?"

She's sulk if the answer was 'no,' but she'd understand. Taking ships not her own on a joyride was a privilege, not a right.

Anemone gave him an affronted look. "I won't," she promised, taking control with a barely suppressed grin. "I've had a few really good teachers."

"Well you're the only real flight teacher I've had. A few cranky drill instructors don't count," she laughed, easing the shuttle into the asteroid belt neatly before accelerating, playing a game with herself of weaving a pattern around the obstacles. "TheEND and I figured out what to do by ourselves, mostly."

"I'm going to make the students motion sick," she pointed out, but didn't hesitate as her fingers quickly flickered over the controls.

Closer and faster. At the rate she was going, an Artoo unit would have been screaming in fear.

Asuna was still silent as she maneuvered the ship. Space was just so big she had no frame of reference when it comes to this.

"This is really awesome."

Bruce wasn't going to try anything dangerous on his first spaceflight - unless it would somehow lead to the saving of lives, of course, which seemed unlikely - so he was largely just cruising. You know. Through the solar system.
