Romance 101, Wednesday, Period 4 -- Class 6

"You're in luck," Drake greeted the class, "today I'm not going to make you sing or dance or chat each other up for dates. Today you just have to observe." He snapped his fingers, conjuring up an old fashioned film projector. "I'm going to show you a little movie called 'Love, Actually,' a romantic comedy that covers about a month and a half of time and all sorts of different aspects of love and romance. Watch, learn, continue to be cynical...but at least enjoy Hugh Grant dancing like a dork."

Which, for George, would be the snacks and, really, he could get those anywhere.

She fiddled with the beads she was still wearing on her left wrist. "Look, about the radio. You might not have heard...Hell's fire, you might not have even cared...but the way Rose made it sound--it wasn't like that. She just hates me."

For no reason Karla could fathom! She'd always been perfectly nice to Rose and her hips.

He frowned a little, not liking seeing her upset, but not terribly thrilled about the situation either. "Tisn't a worry," he said finally. "Tis jus' radio. Don't mean nothin' beyond someone wantin' t'be funny."

"I wasn't amused," Karla said darkly. "Still, I just want you to know that it wasn't true. I'm not looking for anything like that." She dropped her eyes, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't want you thinking that I've thrown you over for someone else...or that it meant so little to me that I could just jump into another relationship in less than twenty-four hours."

She looked up at him again. "It isn't true," she said again. "That's not how I am."

He reached up to touch her cheek if she let him, almost pulling away at the last second as he remembered maybe he shouldn't do that anymore. "I believe ye. An' I won' be thinkin' that."

Karla reached over to clasp his hand and rest her cheek against it. "Thank you," she said simply. "I'm glad." Out of habit, she turned her face to press a palm against his cheek and froze. "Sorry," she whispered.
