Unblinded Science, Period Six [6/7]

Today Walter does not look at all well. He's certainly not going to tell the students why he looks as though a Dow Chemical truck hit his cerebral cortex at 80 MPH at 3:00 a.m., but he does, it may as well have, and he's lucky he remembers he's teaching, let alone what his lesson plan for the day was.

As such, the assignment written on the whiteboard goes thusly:

SILENCE!

Memorize the periodic table of the elements on the lawn.

[ooc: My apologies. Again. I'm in the last push of moving and my landlord called during my class-writing time and thus I have no class-writing time.]

"I don't think that quite works," Peter said. "I think most hippies would have troubles with such concepts as rodent explosions for the good of science."

"Yeah, I guess that'd go against the whole peace, love, and understanding bit, huh?"

"And there's definitely no understanding Walter," Peter said. "So, what are we going to do to pass the time since neither of us need to actually do this activity?

"I figured I was gonna look over some notes for this weekend. I don't wanna hog all the trebuchet glory, since that's become a giant team project."

"Which means it should become a giant trebuchet," Peter joked. "So, we really know nothing about each other. I mean, other than some shared interests in science and the like. I don't even think I know where you're from."

"Minneapolis. Born and raised. You?"

"Born and raised, for the most part, in Cambridge," Peter said. "But my mother and I relocated to Allston about four years ago."

". . . You don't sound English."

Claudia's New England geography kind of sucked.

"Massachusetts," Peter said, smiling. "I'd say you don't sound Minnesotan, but that's just a terrible stereotype."

"Well, it depends on where you are in Minnesota, but yeah. Minneapolis tends more towards the classic midwest accent."

"That's actually good to know," Peter said, filing that away in his vault of a memory. "So what does a Minneapolis girl do in her free time when she's not building amazing devices?"

"Well, if you're me, not a whole hell of a lot. I work at the book store on Mondays in town, tease Jacob, sleep. . . ." Side effect of spending five years obsessed with a particular goal. "How 'bout a guy from Cambridge?"

"I read," Peter said. "Catch the ocassional tv show, keep up on my coin tricks, that sort of thing. I also play the piano."

"Yeah? Like jazz and stuff?"

"My dad made me start with classical," Peter said. "But I try to keep my options open with my musical style."

"I always kinda figured classical was boring." Said the girl who spent a lot of time reading up on early mathematicians.

"It's pretty stuffy," Peter said. "But some of it is pretty beautiful. And you definitely haven't heard Wagner if you think all classical is boring. Though technically he's from the Romantic period."

"I know a guy named Wagner, that count?" Claudia grinned. "Maybe you should play me something, sometime."

"Name a time," Peter said. "There's a piano in the dorm rec room I can use. And it can be a... thing where a boy and a girl pre-arrange to meet."

"They gotta find a shorter name for that. Got a favorite day?"

"Well, I'm usually fairly free on Fridays," Peter said. "Should I prepare anything in particular? Aside from The Cure, of course."

"Player's choice. And Friday's good. I've got class --" On dating, even, "-- but after that, nothing going on."

"Then I think we've got plans," Peter said. "Early evening, maybe? We could catch a bite to eat afterwards."

"It's a thing where a boy and a girl pre-arrange to meet."
