The Great Outdoors | Friday | Period 1
Today, the class was meeting near the Preserve. There were several empty backpacks behind him and many moddable supplies over to the side. Fraser himself was dressed lightly for the heat and looked cheerful, as usual.
"Good morning," he greeted, hands behind his back. "It's going to be a hot one so I hope you've all dressed lightly. Today, we're going over camping. This is probably not new to some of you and it's probably very new to others. Camping is, essentially, leaving an urban area to go spend one or several nights with nature. It can be planned or unplanned and it can be rough or fairly comfortable. It all depends on your surroundings and your preparation. Survivalists, for instance, set out with not much more than their boots and clothes. Recreational campers use tents, supplies and typically frequent campsites with water, electrical and sewer hookups. Again, it's all a matter of preference."
Fraser paused and started pacing a bit. "If you're going to be a survivalist, you need to be well trained and well prepared for whatever might happen. It's difficult to be out in the elements with little to no supplies and if you run into something unfamiliar, you are going to be in trouble. This is a very rewarding but can be a very dangerous activity. Most people start out their camping experiences slowly by going to campsites with a lot of supplies and seeing how they enjoy living without a lot of luxury before they go quite so far."
Fraser, though, would set off into the woods with his clothes, boots and Dief on any day of the week. "For today, we're going to be prepare for a camping trip. There are several backpacks and supplies behind me. Your job is to pack a backpack with things you think you'd need for a camping trip that you're comfortable with. Once that's done, head into the preserve and find a place that you think is ideal for a camp out. You can stay there for as long as you'd like. End of class, end of the night. The supplies are all new and should work if you decide to stay there for awhile. Sound good? Get to it."
