Study Hall -- Friday, October 21tst

Sarah glares at anyone who dares to enter, not about to put up with the same sort of shit she had to put up with yesterday. She hunches over her notebook for her hot, hot Fandom High romance novel OMG WHEEE! notes for the classes she really doesn't have, looking about as sane -- if not less so -- than usual.

Now, what's another word for "turgid"?

Marty looks away.

"Does it really matter anymore?"

He slides the box of records towards Angela.

"You can take these back to CV. I don't really want ehme anymore. Gordon can sell them to someone else."

Angela bites her lip. It's really over, she thinks.

"If you're sure," she starts to say, then interrupts herself.

"Um, Marty? You getting yourself beat up does matter. Whatever happened between us, you're still a person, and you're still friends with a whole lot of people I care about. And, you know, I don't want to have to avoid you forever."

She gestures down at the records. "These can go to my room, or to Gordon. Whatever. But ... please tell me you don't hate me, okay? I don't want to hate you."

Marty winces. He didn't mean to sound hurtful.

"I... I don't hate you Angela. I was upset and we both said..."

Marty stops himself.

"What happened after I left was... stupid. I was angry and I guess I felt the need to... do something with that anger. I know it doesn't make sense but I guess I felt that it was better to hurt myself than hurt someone else."

It's Angela's turn to wince. She hates knowing that their fight put Marty in a place where external pain was all that worked.

"I can understand that," she says, quietly. "I ... wasn't in a good place myself. I just -- you know I express things differently than you do. Whatever it's worth, I'm glad nobody but you got hurt, though of course I -- shit, Marty, I can't say I didn't want to hurt you, because if I did..." she flails her arms uselessly. "I said terrible things, things that I knew would hurt you. I shouldn't have done that."

"And thank you. For, um, not hating me."

Marty shakes his head.

"We both said terrible things Angela. I completely lost all objectivity and instead of trying to listen I... well you were there. I shouldn't have done that either. For what it's worth, I'm sorry. I just wish I said it sooner."

Angela smiles, wobbly. "I didn't exactly rush out and apologize either," she says. "It's ... I wasn't sure I could face you."

"And if it helps? I'm sorry too."

She nudges the box of records with her foot. "So ... where does this leave us?"

[identity profile] oatmanspatient.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Marty hesitates.

"I don't know. We're both in the same room and we don't want to scream at each other. I think that's a good start."

Marty looks at the records.

"And uh... not all the records I bought are in there."

"Let's keep up the not-screaming. It'll make Rory happy, anyhow, and it is her birthday. Or, um, almost."

Angela looks down at the records. "What did you keep? I mean, to be honest, I probably won't bring them back anyhow, because ... it would be such a long story to explain. I'm just curious."

Marty gives her a shy grin.

"'Blood and Chocolate.' And 'My aim is true'. Plus a couple of others."

"I still haven't heard "Blood And Chocolate" -- I know, don't tell Gordon. But I love the title," Angela says, matching Marty's grin. Stop that, she tells herself. It's over. That means no flirting.

She runs a hand through her hair. "Ah, um. I should go look for a present for Rory's party. But ... I'm glad we're okay. Relatively."

A little awkwardly, she picks up the box of records and ballances it on one hip as she leaves study hall.
