Flight and Flying [Tuesday, May 25]

"Today," Anakin began, pointing his hand toward the simulator, "we fly one of the aircraft used by the militaries of this planet. It's called the F-16 and is adequate in air-to-air combat as well as air-to-surface attack, can go more than 850 kilometers before it needs to be refueled and can withstand up to nine G's--pretty high tech for this world's standards." Yes, Anakin was a total ship snob.

He opened the simulator door and gestured to the controls. "As you can see, it's configured differently than the systems we've been using in the last few weeks, but the joystick and the trigger button are fairly self-explanatory. You'll also be dealing with the Earth's gravity, so if you make the plane go up too quickly, the machine's been equipped to simulate G forces, so you'll pass out or throw up. If you throw up, you and Anemone will be cleaning that up," he added, "and she'll be cranky. Please don't make her cranky."

He clapped his hands together. "You may begin."

After falling off the speeder bike last week shut up it's canon, Leia was determined not to die this week and managed to take out the three other airplanes. We just won't talk about the damage to her own.

Anemone had been Good, and spent most of the class time keeping a close eye on the students. But she'd been twitching while watching them, and her fingers flexed as she repressed the urge to take over because they were Doing It Wrong.

She waited until they'd all had their turns before sliding into the pilot seat and running a pre-flight check, intent on seeing just how much she could make it sing.

Against three heavy rocks like those planes? It'd be a sonata.

Bruce didn't have too much trouble with this. A strategic mind was useful when fighting groups, and Bruce used that to his advantage. He managed to get one of the enemy planes to shoot one of the others down, used his maneuverability advantage to get below the third plane and strafe it from underneath, all before finally shooting down the original plane.

It took longer than Bruce would have liked, but he was still fairly new to dogfights.
