For the next few weeks we're gonna do some class projects that'll hopefully get you dudes thinking more about how totally awesome music is.

This Week's Project:

This week we're gonna look at using real life to become music. Stuff like speech and random sound effects and banging on pots and pans can become music. So you dudes and babes are gonna pair up, get a voice tape recorder thing each and work together in your pair to try and come up with something that could be considered music.

We're gonna do this the way I used to do it, which may be old-fashioned to you dudes, but doesn't require technology know-how. All you need to do is record a bunch of different stuff and, when you're done, play the sounds out to another tape recorder in the order that you want.

Bonus points for creativity.

Points WILL be taken off for invading peoples' privacy. Make sure you ask permission before recording conversations. I don't know about you dudes, but I don't want Professor Spider dude to get mad. So ask first.

Birds tweet. An amplifier squeals. School bell.
Bill: "OK Ted, George Washington. One: the father of our country."
Pen tapping.
Ted: "Had wooden teeth, chased Moby Dick."
Bill: "That's Captain Ahab, dude."
Heavy breathing. Girly laughter.
Ted: "Your stepmom is cute."
Bill: "Shut up, Ted."
Ted: "Remember when she was a senior and we were freshmen?"
Bill: "SHUT UP, TED!"
Clashing of swords. Crash, clatter, bang.
Bill: You killed Ted, you medieval dickweed!"
Screaming. Crickets chirping. Weird 'woooh'ing.
Ted: "Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K."
Maniacal laughter. Shattering glass.
Ted: "As you can see, Genghis greatly enjoys Twinkies because of the excellent sugar rush."
Strange sound that can only be determined as being a time travelling phone booth zapping away.
Rufus: "Gentlemen...we're history."


So basically, try to get some sound effects. Get your friends to help with the dialogue. Random stuff. Put it all together at the end in any order and that's it dudes!



Next Week: Come prepared to run around campus and town and use a search engine.

John signs in and laughs at his partner. "Should be interesting at least."

"I thought we were talking about music videos today?"

"So I spent most to last week drooling over watching Depeche Mode videos for nothing? Great."

She thinks a moment and the first thing to cross her mind is not I Want You Now by DM with all the moaning, not at all!

"So something industrial then? Cool, I'm sure I have chains and stuff we could use." she smiles at Sawyer

Barbossa chuckled when saw who his partner was. "This should be a treat, t'be sure," he said. He grabbed a few Twinkies before his partner could eat them all and glanced around for Xander.

Mr Talkative Excuse Dude Xander noted the twinkies on Barbossa's desk and grinned, before grabbing his own. Twinkies. He grabbed his own Twinkies.

"Sound effects, huh? I'll bet this place could generate some weird ones. And I don't just mean from the plumbing."

"Absolutely. Ye wouldn't be believin' some of the the the radio transmission feeds be pickin' up." Barbossa leaned closer. "I believe the gremlins be holdin' dance parties t'Anakin's banthabell music. It's the only thing that could be explainin' some of the noises."

Barbossa chuckled. "Strange school we be goin' to." He ate one of his Twinkies before continuing. "I be guessin' that me feeds probably be cheatin' on the dialogue portion o' the project, 'n while I've never been one that be carin' overly-much fer rules, I be likin' Professor Ted. More importantly, I be likin' me head bein' on me body which might be in some doubt should I run up against Professor Jerusalem." He wiped his sticky fingers on his trouser legs.

"Who d'ya think we should be interviewin'?"

"Silent Bob? Hmm. Who around here's got a ...unique... way of talking? Um. Besides the piratey way, which is unique but probably cheating to use ourselves."

I think we need to follow Professor Beeblebrox around town or something. Because I only hear him in the halls on occassion and what he says makes no sense."

Seeing as how her partner was missing, Sonia spent the class period jotting down ideas for different sounds that might make an interesting mix. When she's finished, she pulls out a few pieces of sheet music and studies the notation- she's hoping to find something that might be of use to the band.

Beethoven follows Sonia into the room, then gives Professor Ted a slight bow.

Remembering that Beethoven wanted to talk to Professor Ted, Sonia gets back up from her desk and follows him to the front of the room.

"Erm, Professor? Beethoven actually had a...question for you."
