The Lawn | Noon Onward!

With graduation festivities occurring over the weekend, the school administration expected most of the graduation guests to begin arriving today. To ensure guests felt welcomed, Barney's student council minions had set up a small gathering on the lawn where the guests could arrive, mingle, and feign relaxation before heading off with their graduates.

Or where they could all hear about how George got the makeouts with his girl the night before. Someone was a little chatty while hefting the tables and chairs that would serve guests well for getting a load off after travel, and Barney thought it was a tale worth sharing. For the hungry and forgetful, there were finger foods and nametags spread out on a long table. It was time to get the all-weekend grad party started!

Cor nodded. "Normally we'dve let her," he said. "She was just hurt that time. But I got her a shield for Christmas. I know better than to make her sit out for being a lady."

Ben grinned. "Good. Especially after her time here, where most of the girls are heavily armed and not afraid to aim whatever they have right at you for trying to call them weaker than men."

"Aravis can knock me down faster than Corin," he agreed. "I'm not a total fool. Thank the Lion she's smaller than me or I'd be doomed."

"And that she likes you," Ben added.

"I certainly hope so. Be a pity if she'd changed her mind by now, wouldn't it?" Cor said, grinning like an idiot.

"I think you're okay," Ben said. "Assuming you brought a suitable graduation gift, of course."

Cor slanted a look at him. "A circlet for court, since she'll be coming home, and a new pair of riding boots. Not for court. Do those work? Is there a tradition I should know about?"

"I'd say to add some chocolate too, but that's what I got her, so no," Ben teased. "That sounds fine."

"I'm fairly certain, if I know Aravis, that she'll be stockpiling chocolate to bring home herself," Cor said wisely. "May as well add to it."

"Definitely," Ben said. "Did you bring another packhorse for it?"

"Mine's a warhorse. He'll be strong enough to carry the both of us, and her gelding can carry the chocolate," Cor laughed. "That should do well enough, I should think."

Ben smiled, but it had turned a little wistful. "I'll miss her."

Cor reached out to lightly touch Ben's shoulder. "You'll visit?"

He was sort of dependent on that. Cor needed people like Ben and Hwin around to keep Aravis in check and explain her to him, sometimes.

"You'll get tired of seeing me," Ben said with a tiny smile. "But I'll be Aravis's chocolate supplier."

"Oh, thank the Lion," Cor sighed. "I was afraid of what would happen when she runs out."

Ben lowered his voice. "Go to the store in town, get some and hide it in case of emergencies."

"She'll find it," Cor hissed.

"Is she part bloodhound?" he muttered back.
