The Lawn | Noon Onward!

With graduation festivities occurring over the weekend, the school administration expected most of the graduation guests to begin arriving today. To ensure guests felt welcomed, Barney's student council minions had set up a small gathering on the lawn where the guests could arrive, mingle, and feign relaxation before heading off with their graduates.

Or where they could all hear about how George got the makeouts with his girl the night before. Someone was a little chatty while hefting the tables and chairs that would serve guests well for getting a load off after travel, and Barney thought it was a tale worth sharing. For the hungry and forgetful, there were finger foods and nametags spread out on a long table. It was time to get the all-weekend grad party started!

[Up early because I have no control over the internets once I go to work!]

"Did you expect me not to?" he asked, grinning back at her even as he leaned down to gather her close. It was nice to actually greet her the way he wanted to. "Though, really, it was a terribly treacherous journey. Lots of twigs, and I ran out of cake halfway through the Woods."

"Oh, you poor thing," she teased, going onto her toes to kiss him. She'd missed him, perhaps. "I'm gratified to see you made it in one piece, and moved past the terror of not having cake."

"Well, I discovered more food here. And then you found me, and my day improved," he noted, gesturing to the table as he leaned his head against hers for a moment. "Mostly due to the food, of course."

"Oh, naturally," she agreed seriously before swatting his arm playfully. "If that's how you feel, then perhaps I won't be coming home next week. I'll stay here, and live on the beach. I'll become a hobo." She'd picked up that term somewhere.

"Darling Aravis, radiance herself, my heart breaks with the very threat that I might not be privileged upon your visage every day for the rest of my life. To simply see your smile is better than a thousand pieces of cake," Cor said dramatically, before flashing a grin. "Better? And what's a hobo?"

"Never do that again," she said, making a face. "You sound like those horrible poets at court. And a hobo is a person who lives on the beach. They have beards."

Behold her knowledge.

"I'm not sure a beard would suit you, Aravis," Cor said thoughtfully.

"I could just attach bits of hair to my chin," she mused. "I'm sure it would be fine."

"And won't you be cold, living on the beach forever?" Cor asked logically.

"I'll have blankets," she decided.

"You'll never see Bree and Hwin again, and they certainly like you more than cake," Cor pointed out.

"I suppose that's true," Aravis said with a sigh. "I'll have to abandon my dreams of becoming a hobo out of spite. And really, cake is, indeed, excellent. You're right to appreciate it so."
