The Lawn | Noon Onward!

With graduation festivities occurring over the weekend, the school administration expected most of the graduation guests to begin arriving today. To ensure guests felt welcomed, Barney's student council minions had set up a small gathering on the lawn where the guests could arrive, mingle, and feign relaxation before heading off with their graduates.

Or where they could all hear about how George got the makeouts with his girl the night before. Someone was a little chatty while hefting the tables and chairs that would serve guests well for getting a load off after travel, and Barney thought it was a tale worth sharing. For the hungry and forgetful, there were finger foods and nametags spread out on a long table. It was time to get the all-weekend grad party started!

[Up early because I have no control over the internets once I go to work!]

Dominic looked over at her in something of a panic. "You don't think she'd really--?" Then he scowled. Of course she wouldn't.

"But... what if...?" He trailed off and reached into his pocket as if to check that something was still there.

"To the best of my knowledge, Anemone hasn't even bitten a single one of her classmates in three years, let alone eaten any," Maria said dryly. "I think you're safe."

"That's not what I'm worried about," Dominic muttered. Then he sighed and looked around. "I hope... she's glad to be coming back. Leaving all this."

"She comes home on a fairly regular basis," Maria replied gently. "If she didn't want to come home, she would say so. It's not like Anemone's ever had trouble expressing her feelings."

Except for when it came to Dominic, which she was wisely not going to mention.

"True." Dominic even managed a fond laugh at that, thinking back to any of a number of times she'd not had trouble expressing herself.

And considering that Dominic had his own problems expressing himself about Anemone... well, it was probably best that Maria didn't bring that little thing up.

He looked around. "I don't see her anywhere yet." And given who they were discussing, it was generally hard to miss her even in a crowd.

"She's probably so enthused to be coming back that's she packing frantically, and has forgotten what time it is," Maria laughed, checking her pocket watch. "Anemone's never been the best about getting where she's supposed to be, unless there's treats or a fight involved, and we did not come bearing bribery."

"Well," Dominic grinned with a shrug. "I did, but I forgot to tell her, so that kinda defeats the purpose, I guess."

He knew Ane too well to come for a visit empty-handed, after all. And even though a bag of assorted candy wasn't much more than a token... well, it was better than nothing.

"You know, for an intelligence office, you really suck at observation." Anemone was behind them, arms crossed and a small smirk on her face. "I had you made while you stared at the name tags."

Dominic, being the ever-cool-headed intelligence officer that he was, nearly jumped out of his skin. "Ah! A-A-Anemone!"

Maria was trying not to laugh, and Anemone's mouth twitched in amusement as she looked around. "Do you know any other pink-haired girls?" she teased. "That's my name."

"Um... hi." That wasn't supposed to sound like a question.

"It's... good to see you." And that wasn't supposed to sound hesitant. But for some reason, Dominic seemed even more nervous than he usually was around the pink-haired girl who had him wrapped around her little finger.

Gulliver bumped up against Dominic's legs, burbbling his hellos, and Anemone shifted slightly. "Good to see you too," she murmured, giving him a quick -- nervous -- peck on the cheek before turning to Maria. "Hi, Maria."

"Anemone," Maria greeted, inclining her head slightly. "Nice to see you in such good spirits."

And not biting people or throwing tantrums at the lack of bribery so far. "Since the school didn't tell us not to come, I'm assuming you passed all your classes."

Dominic blushed but turned and leaned toward Anemone to catch her lips with his for just a moment. "I've missed you."

He grabbed his bag of candy and held it out. "I brought you something." His other hand stayed jammed in his pocket.

"Of course you did, idiot," she answered, giving him another kiss before taking the candy. "What did you bring me?"

The more things changed, some things remained the same.

"You mean the candy isn't enough?" Dominic asked with a fond grin.

Re: Arrival

[identity profile] death-of-hope.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope. Did you bring me a shuttle of my own? I asked Jurgens for one for my birthday and he turned red, and fumed that I couldn't have one. I tried convincing him it was to make up for all the birthdays I never had, and he says when I figure out my REAL birthday, then I can talk to Holland about it." Anemone popped a candy into her mouth and made a face. "Which means 'never.'"

Re: Arrival

[identity profile] youngestofficer.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
"No. No shuttle. Sorry." He wasn't trying to, but the way Dominic said that implied he had something.

"Dooooooooooooooooooominic...." Out came the pout. "Why not? I passed all the stupid flight certifications, for everything up to and including the Gekkostate LFO models, AND the simulated Devilfish run. I can handle a shuttle."

Re: Arrival

[identity profile] youngestofficer.livejournal.com 2010-05-01 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That was a really powerful pout. Dominic had to take a deep breath and steel himself to respond. "I know you can handle a shuttle. And anything else you want to fly. But shuttles are a bit out of my price range..." Especially considering what else he'd bought recently.

[I JUST got this notif... *eyes LJ VERY CROSSLY*]
