The Lawn | Noon Onward!

With graduation festivities occurring over the weekend, the school administration expected most of the graduation guests to begin arriving today. To ensure guests felt welcomed, Barney's student council minions had set up a small gathering on the lawn where the guests could arrive, mingle, and feign relaxation before heading off with their graduates.

Or where they could all hear about how George got the makeouts with his girl the night before. Someone was a little chatty while hefting the tables and chairs that would serve guests well for getting a load off after travel, and Barney thought it was a tale worth sharing. For the hungry and forgetful, there were finger foods and nametags spread out on a long table. It was time to get the all-weekend grad party started!

[Up early because I have no control over the internets once I go to work!]

The microscopic girl in question hadn't really expected him to show. It was only after she was found by her dad that she even really made an effort to keep herself open just in case... and boy, was she glad she did.

So she made it her goal to find him in the crowd (maybe with some nerves considering how the last graduation they'd both been to went), and when she saw him, she greeted him with a bright smile and a, "You look like someone I went to high school with..."

"You look too old to be in high school," John teased, reaching out to envelope her in a hug. Come on, it'd been weeks, like he was going to stand there and banter without trying to squeeze her to death.

And as she wrapped her arms around him in a hug, all was right with Jaina's world again. Well, now you did it, John. She was never letting go now. "That's because I am," she said, and looked up at him, still smiling.

That's right, time for banter with her all squished. "So you're done done?"

"Done done," she nodded, still smiling. Now, though, it also had to do with being done done. "All I need is the diploma and then I'm pretty sure I'm officially just living at school rent-free."

"See, now that's the kind of mooching behavior I like hearing about," he told her. And boy didn't John miss his tiny bit of summer mooching from way back.

"Oh, don't worry, you'll get to hear all about my coming time as a slacker." Slackers don't work, Jaina. "You get points if you don't get sick of it."

"You and your points that earn me nothing," John remarked, giving her hair a tug as his hand wrapped into it a bit. "But don't worry, I'll enjoy it if you can manage slacking."

"It's earning you something, I just don't know what yet," Jaina laughed. One day she'd figure it out. "Will you enjoy it if I can't manage it but do my absolute best to try?"

"No, I'll laugh at you," he promised, smirking mightily.

"That would get points deducted," she warned teasingly. You know, from the thing that she didn't know what he was earning. But it was something really good!

"More point issues," John sighed. "Okay, okay. I will pretend to be nice and ignore your inability to slack, but I might consider dragging you off for a few hours to remember why you started keeping points a dozen years back."
solo_sword: (oh?)

A dozen years. That seemed like a lot but it was actually about right. She couldn't think about it more than that. It'd make her head hurt. "Might consider it," she repeated. "Anything I can do to make that a definite plan?"

"You've started off well," he said encouragingly. "I think the next step involves walking. Complicated, I know, but overall worth it."

"Walking... where? As in, now?" They said hello in the weirdest ways.

"...were there other people to mingle with? I met my goal so far." John pointed to the tag still stuck to his chest.

For the first time, she looked at the nametag, laughing. "Nice," she said appreciatively. "My dad came in. Along with assorted alternate universe relatives." Not that she was opposed to leaving, she just, you know, couldn't tell them why she'd be leaving.

"Your dad's here?" Watch John's face fall. He was so never getting any ever.

"You look disappointed," she noticed, suddenly a little worried.

"Well...I can't exactly drag you off to do terrible things to you when your dad is somewhere waiting." Because no.

"You'll get your chance," she promised, rubbing his back reassuringly. "Just maybe not right this second. Don't think I'm not going to cash on this reminder of the points system." Because it'd been weeks and she'd missed him.

He nodded with understanding. "So, think your dad'll be wanting to Talk to me?" John wondered.

Re: Mingling

"Probably," Jaina said honestly. "If you're up for it, anyway. I'm pretty sure I get to put my foot down and say no to anything I want this weekend."
